Calais-Dover by boat

hi people,
i'm planning to go to London this summer during the olympics and as i'm planning other stops aroun europe i'm to go with train with an Interrail pass. the tunnel is not inclused in the price, and it's really expencive, so i'm looking for a cheap way to cross the see between Europe and England. I've checked some sites, but it seems that the ferries are still expencive too!
i wanted to ask if you know whether there are some cheap boats which are giving a ride from one side to the other of the Channel thanks in advance

You can hire one of these for about £7.

In all seriousness though, flying is probably your best option.

Re: Calais-Dover by boat

as long as i have no bags yes, i can fly from home with 10€, but as i'm going to be around europe for a 20 days i can't leave with no luggage i'm so surprised there are no boats which crosses the channel

Re: Calais-Dover by boat

How many pieces of luggage do you have? If just one big one I recommend flying (from CDG/Amsterdam).

I don't recommend travelling by ferry because the train ride from Dover/Harwich (where you can get a ferry to Hook of Holland, close to Rotterdam) to London (and back) is quite expensive.

The cheapest option now is megabus (from Paris to London). A coach ride is not comfy but it's the cheapest option, you can also save a night of hostel if you want. Otherwise I think Eurolines have cheap deals....

Eurostars can be quite cheap if you get the deal - I think you can do 60-70 quid, the good thing is you don't have to pay too much to go to Central London....

I think Chrono might be right about getting a coach, especially if you don't want to take a flight.

eurostars are included (only need to pay the reservation -around 3-5€) the only line which is not included is the Channel tunnel

Re: Calais-Dover by boat

i looked for the price of coaches and it's around 50 punds that's way too much for one ride...it would cost me half of my interrain tickets for 2 rides under the channel

I was on a Calais-Dover ferry during a Force 8 storm. God, that was a horrible journey.
