Is there a Car Key Boi in every town?
Taken from the Belper News archive, must be an old story cos Nicole stopped running the Nags about two years ago...
reward offered to catch vandals
LANDLORDS in Belper are offering a £500 reward to catch thugs who attack cars on Nottingham Road.
In an attack on Friday August 18, 29 cars were damaged by vandals as they walked along Nottingham Road.
On September 8 a further seven cars were damaged.
In the attacks the vandals walked along the side of the cars scratching long grooves into them. The cars they target are often high performance vehicles or brand new models.
Chris Simcox landlord of the White Swan and Nicole Harrison of the Nag s Head are now offering £500 to anyone who can give information which would lead to a conviction for the offences.
Chris said they were offering the reward after some people had blamed their customers for the attacks.
He said: We condemn what these vandals did.
Some people think they are customers of our pubs but we want to prove they are not.
Really we are just trying to help the community. A lot of the people who get their cars damaged are our customers.
Neighbourhood watch co-ordinator for the Nottingham Road area Pat Woollands welcomed the landlords decision to offer the reward.
She said: I think it is a wonderful idea.
When there were more attacks the other week people were just mortified.
The only reason there weren t any this week is because people stayed up all night to watch for the vandals.
Belper Town councillor Randall Sanders also offered his support to the landlords.
He said: I am all for offering the reward if it catches the culprits.
Vandalism has always been a problem along Nottingham Road. I really can t see what they get out of it.
Belper police said anybody with any information should contact them on (cant give that number for legal reasons!)
*** They haven't been caught, if it is a they, I suspect it's one person. Apparently someones been wreacking havoc again recently with a screwdriver!
