Melbourne, Australia

To those who know Melbourne: What do you recommend as far as sights to see, things to do, things to eat, places to relax, etc. for someone who is from the States and only in Melbourne for a little while longer? Unfortunately, my budget is very limited, but I read on a website that Queen's Park in Moonee Ponds is worth a look and went there the other day, just to give an example of inexpensive ideas. I've hit most of the museums, seen the Australian Open, and so on, but am looking to maximize the remaining weeks I have. I would greatly appreciate your sharing your favorite places to walk, food I should try since it's local, quirky places to check out, ... whatever comes to mind.

Thanks in advance!

I've been in the city for excursion for 3 days Walking by ourselves.

Maybe you should go to the Aquarium, Old Melbourne Gaol, The Shrine. (Thats for CBD) There are mini alley ways, they usually have good food/cafe there. Have fun

I hate cliche's...but anyway.

If you don't like the weather in Melbourne...wait 10 minutes.

Is Australia in general a good place to visit? I'm thinking of applying for the working visa that allows you to stay in Australia for a year. I am concerned about the extreme heat though as I have delicate Irish skin

Re: Melbourne, Australia

St.Kilda was my favourite part of the city

Walking down the Yarra was pretty nice too...and visiting the Australian Open facilities which are literally a 10 minutes walk from downtown

It's not that bad. We have the image of the boiling heat during the Australian Open but that's the height of the summer (and not every summer) so you will be fine. Lots of Australian have a "delicate Irish skin" themselves. Just buy some sunscreen.
