Ohio officials and police massacre animals

Officials in Zanesville, Ohio, closed schools and warned motorists to stay in their vehicles early this morning as armed officers hunted down bears, lions, tigers and other animals running free after their owner apparently opened their cages before he committed suicide.

Citing concerns about the dark, officials ordered officers to shoot to kill rather than tranquilize the animals, and dozens of animals are dead.

Sheriff's deputies shot and killed 50 of the animals, including 18 rare Bengal tigers, 17 lions, six black bears, two grizzly bears, a baboon, a wolf and three mountain lions.

-------------------------

F**k 'em! It's one thing to kill animals after unsuccessful attempts at capture but to order killing over tranquillizing is twisted. Of course none of those involved will go through the wringer like Michael Vick did.

Re: Ohio officials and police massacre animals

I read the whole account. Night was falling, they were trying tranquilizers, but they were running off into the almost-night after being shot with the tranquilizer gun, so they had to start shooting to kill. They were also starting to scatter to where they could not be tracked after dark. It was horrible, but the owner is to blame. You have to protect people.

gosh, there are fewer than 2500 Bengal tigers in the whole world to lose 18th of that population in such a way is such a pity and of course the other animals are quite the loss The owner is/was such a moron to do such a thing Wished that the officials handled the situation way better and prevented this amount of ungrounded deaths!

I don't think you should be able to privately own animals like this for the very reason we have here.

What the...

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

Ohio officials were left with no choice. The thread title is incredibly misleading.

Tranquilizers lose their effect in the night. These are wild animals. The man who owned them killed himself and let all the cages free right before he died.

Ohio had to protect the people.

According to the reports I read they did not try tranquilizers. If they really did then although the carnage sucks, I can see with it. And IMO whoever takes an action is always the one responsible for it. "Protecting people" can be done in many ways. Of course those ways involve a lot more effort than just pulling the trigger.

A - the thread title is accurate.
B - Tranquilizers are no more/less effective in the night or day. Where did you come up with such nonsense?
C - Yes they're wild animals . so??
D - There are many ways to "protect people." Let's kill anything or anyone who may pose a likely threat is the preferred option of fearful wusses.
