Your favourite national anthems

I know this is random, but post your favourite anthems here:

Anthem of the USSR, I like the lyrics better

Berlioz's La Marseillaise

Re: Your favourite national anthems

I think its a great topic!! I have some strong opinions on athems..

My 2 favourites are New Zealand and American. I really think the Aussie anthem is SO BORING.

NZ's is my fave as it combines traditonal Maori (which I think is a beautiful sounding language) and English and finishes really resoundingly. The american one just has a good tune and builds to a great climax with 'oh so does that star spangled banneerrrr gate way....'

I hope before I die Australia manages to create a new one.

Of even more significance, there's this little gap in Graf's resume the size of the hole in the ozone layer: It's called Monica Seles. Was Graf the best female player of all time? She wasn't even the best in the heart of her career.

Beautiful, simple and solemn. The lyrics don't denote pride or glory like so many others, only prosperity.

Re: Your favourite national anthems

The official Indian National Anthem is only 52 secs. But in 1999 A R Rahman directed many Indian Artists(legends) to sing a vocal and instrumental version of the anthem. Just awe inspiring to an Indian.

Well, our anthem speaks of the beauty of India and the destiny of our people. No competition with any other country.

Also, one of my favourite patriotic songs and one of the most beautiful videos shot of indigenous people IMO.

I love the Russian National Anthem as well.

“ For when the One Great Scorer comes to write against your name, He marks – not that you won or lost – But how you played the Game.” ~~~ Grantland Rice
''O eco-friendly, Nature ke rakshak, Main bhi hoon nature!. Rivaazon se, Samaajhon se, kyon, Tu kaate mujhe, Kyun baante mujhse iss tarah. Kyun sach ka sabak sikhaaye, Jab sach sunn bhi na paaye. Sach koi bole toh tu, niyam kanoon bataaye. Tera darr, tera pyaar, teri waah, tu hi rakh!!! ''~~~ Irshad Kamil

I love US National Anthem, because that's the one of the most screwed up anthem (by artists) ever!

Best melody is O Canada

Other favorites are the Russian and Italian anthems. The Italian one I only hear at the start of a football match.

Thanks Bobby Brown for ruining that talent. Also love Carly Patterson's version of it

Re: Your favourite national anthems

Hearing Whitney Houston perform the US National anthem stirs my soul and gives me chills- it's a perfect vehicle for a well trained singer. The song has so many peaks and valleys and and so much movement and emotion. By far one one of the most impactful anthems.

What a terrible combination! The boring aussie anthem combined with Vanessa 'I sound like I just stepped on a pregnant cat' Amorosi!

Agree with Russian. It is awesome!

Though. Ours would win, if we changed it to --> Finlandia

russia

Something was bound to go right sometime today, All these broken pieces fit together to make a perfect picture of us
It got cold and then dark so suddenly and rained, It rained so hard the two of us were the only thing
That we could see for miles and miles
And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth, When you held onto me like I was your little life raft
Please know that you were mine as well
Drops of water hit the ground like God's own tears
And spread out into shapes like Salad bowls and basins and buckets for bailing out the flood

Love the US national anthem and many of these current artists wouldn't dare sing this anthem in public.

I was so with that video until the very end when they started showing Japanese girls in swimsuits as apparently part of the glory of Nippon.
