Wink Going on holidays with my boyfriend to Barcelona :)

Hi again
I'm planning to go on holiday to Barcelona this summer with my boyfriend. We have plenty of time (July most likely), but does any of you know or can recommend us a gay friendly hostel/hotel/B&B? All in all an accommodation Looking forward to your replies

Re: Going on holidays with my boyfriend to Barcelona :)

I started dating and fell in love with my husband in Barcelona!! Maybe you will have the same luck.

The whole city is gay friendly, though there is a gay part of town, gai-aixample, something like that, the main gay hotel is the Axel, but really any part of town is fine. We stayed at the Hotel Arts in the new section of town on the water they redid for the Olympics, it is not near anything and very pricey, I don't recommend staying there, it's just not near anything. Las Ramblas is a beautiful part of town. Gai-aixample or whatever it's called is where you need to be. Great city.

I'm jealous, have a blast!!

A little bit irrelevant, but Sitges is a popular beach for gay people. It's quite accessible from Barcelona - just half an hour train will do. Enjoy.

It is pricey, yes. It is a 5*GL and the usual place where movie/rockstars stay while in the city, so that's what you can expect.

Not near anything? Well, it is right in front of Barcelona beaches and there's a 5 minutes walk to the nearest metro station that will take you to the city center (Plaça Catalunya) in less than 10 minutes. If you can afford it, go for it.

And yeah, the whole Barcelona is very gay friendly. Way too much IMO, but that's another story

It is on the water, but I don't think these are swimable beaches. You are very near a train station, but there is more for your money elsewhere. The rooms are Hotel Arts are spectacular, but your money is best spent elsewhere IMO. That part of town has little to do. We're going back for a repositioning cruise in November, probably stay at the Axel, certainly not wasting $$ at the Hotel Arts.

I've been to Barcelona twice since February, and I'll live there 6 months next year!
It's a very very pleasant city and as people said before, the whole city is gayfriendly. There are gays everywhere .
The athmosphere is great, bars in front of the beach next to the Puerto olimpico are the best.

Enjoy your holidays dude

LOL of course these beaches are swimable. They are certainly not the best you may find but you have to bear in mind that they are located in the city itself. They are good enough and if you ever go during summer you will see they are packed (mostly by tourists as people from Barcelona tend to go away from the city to get better beaches). But they are definetely swimable.

I'm surprised you find London is cheaper for accommodation than Barcelona. I find London really expensive, even for a fairly standard 2* hotel. I went to Barcelona last April and I stayed in a nice 3* hotel, right in the centre (and albeit on offer) for circa 70 euros a night.

Re: Going on holidays with my boyfriend to Barcelona :)

As a Filipino, going to Barcelona has been very trying. I do enjoy the city, the food and the overall vibe. But what man, the racism there is incredible. I heard Sergio Busquets (from FC Barcelona) just called a footballer from Africa who plays for Real Madrid a monkey. It's ridiculous. My friend and I were going to one of the supermarkets there to fetch our tickets for the FC Barcelona game on Jan 2, and someone who works in the store couldn't really understand or speak English (another challenge in the city). Someone finally intervened because apparently the woman who were speaking with thought we were there to work, and it was our first day on the job. Fucking A.

Sorry to bring everyone down. But generally speaking, Barcelona is great.
