Seattle vs. Santa Barbara: Advice please!!!

I'm planning to go to graduate school this fall, and I'm deciding between U Wash and UCSB. The city is gonna be a major factor for me, and I was wondering if anyone from these cities, or know something about both, can give me some advice? Particularly on the things to do and the gay scene.

He looked deep into his eyes and said, "You're perfect."

"No, I'm not. But with you, I don't even care."

Santa Barbara probably has hotter gays. Just a guess.

A single flow'r he sent me, since we met./All tenderly his messenger he chose;
Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet - One perfect rose.
I knew the language of the floweret;/'My fragile leaves,' it said, 'his heart enclose.'
Love long has taken for his amulet/One perfect rose.
Why is it no one ever sent me yet/One perfect limousine, do you suppose?
Ah no, it's always just my luck to get/One perfect rose.

Seattle is a far more dynamic city. Santa Barbara is beautiful, but it's a glorified beach town. Seattle wins hands down for me. The food is amazing, the scenery is incredible, and the University of Washington campus is one of the most beautiful that I've ever seen.

You should choose the school based mainly on the school itself and hands down it's UW. Sure Seattle has pretty shitty weather compares to Santa Barb but it's still a great place with lots of diversity and Pike Place is a pretty rad place for some local flavors.

I'm actually doing physics, and UCSB has a much better program. However, city or the strength of the program? I'll be visiting UWash and checking out its program, but to be honest I seriously doubt it can match up to UCSB's. However, Seattle just seems such a nice city, and I'll be very happy to live there. Tough choices.

Does anyone want to weigh in on Austin?

I hear it's a cool city, but I also know it doesn't have a proper Chinatown. WTF am I going to get my Chinese food?!!

Just go to UCSB. You know you want to go there.

I'd pick UCSB then. Can you really beat THIS AND a better program:

Come on now, I'm almost jealous. Seattle overall is probably a better city, and you'll most likely need a car in SB but 1) better program 2) amazing weather unlike rainy Seattle 3) gorgeous setting in both.

Don't forget that SB is 1.5 hours away from LA (which sucks, but let's pretend it doesn't for now).

Re: Seattle vs. Santa Barbara: Advice please!!!

At this point in time, as long as I don't detest SB, or Seattle totally overwhelms me in its awesomeness, I will probably go to UCSB. But the possibility exists that Seattle is just that awesome.

I just realised that you can probably get better Chinese food in Seattle than in Santa Barbara.
Does Santa Barbara still have a Chinatown?

Don't think it exists anymore.

And weather is quite a non-factor for me. I mean, I liked the weather in upstate NY, and Seattle would be considered super moderate compared to it.
