"Born this way" - really?

A new song based on such an irrelevant, inane and archaic idea.

It's okay for anyone to be the way they choose to be and the way they are. Period. No justification is needed!

Mulder: "So you're agreeing with me?"
Scully "No! You're bat-crap crazy."

Re: "Born this way" - really?

Are you implying being gay is a choice ?

Do we really need 8 threads on a pop song ?

Re: "Born this way" - really?

You may mean no diesrespect pov, but just to let you know, us gays are EXTREMELY offended when you imply being gay is a choice. If it were a choice pov, why would we make our lives harder than it is?

He looked deep into his eyes and said, "You're perfect."

"No, I'm not. But with you, I don't even care."

Re: "Born this way" - really?

You are right, but this song is nothing but a desperate and a very calculated attempt to create a "pop moment", and there's no better way than to use a slogan with which many gays associate themselves i.e shameless pandering.

You think attraction is something you choose?

Re: "Born this way" - really?

He means that it doesn't matter whether or not you were "born this way", or if you did choose your sexuality (which people don't, of course) it shouldn't matter anyway. You don't need to have justification for your sexuality regardless of how you ended up with it. Damn, kids. Think outside the box.

No, because you're not thinking correctly.

I think attraction and choice are pretty much opposites, definition-wise. so no.

Re: "Born this way" - really?

Where in the thread starter's first post does he say being gay is a choice? Even if you were to assume that he is talking about gay people, he specifically said "choose to be and the way they are." Gay people do have a choice, a choice to live openly and with acceptance of themselves and the way they were born...I see nothing offensive in the post.

As for the topic, I agree with Apoleb in it basically being pandering, but I guess if it means a top celebrity is willing enough to put out a song and stand up for equality then I'm not going to condemn that. Most of the time we're complaining wishing more people would stand up and do the same.

"Religion has actually convinced people that there is an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. Any if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But he loves you."

Oh please, who do you think it refers to? taxi drivers? I also see nothing offensive, I just think nobody chose to be gay. I know I didn't.
