My tennis partner is sexist

And proud of it. He thinks women are "bitches" whose place is in the kitchen/bedroom and wants go live in Saudia Arabia because he could have a harem there Oh and apparently this is how it was always meant to be because God gave Eve to Adam because Adam was bored

I just don't know how people can be this fucked up and say this shit with a straight face in this day and age... yes I get he is 19 and all BUT still

I told him it's disgusting by the way and that he is full of shit to which he answered "You say that I'm full of shit but you don't explain why". Honestly, I don't even know why this is something that needs to be explained...

Eek. That's tragic. But he's young so he still has time to grow...people change. Sounds like he's been brainwashed from a very young age. You should probably explain why you think it's disgusting. Even if it doesn't need to be explained. Sounds like he's needs another point of view on the female equality issue. And you're close enough to him to be his tennis partner. Maybe he'll listen.

Re: My tennis partner is sexist

how did you get him as a partner?

Perhaps you can suggest that his sexist behavior is overcompensation for his insecurity over his masculinity

Re: My tennis partner is sexist

^He was looking for someone to play with and contacted me.

I honestly don't even know how to explain it to him when he is going to say absolutely stuff like that line about God or "that is how it supposed to be". Honestly, my jaw just drops when I hear stupidity like that.

I think he also listens to a lot of music with "bitches" and "hoes" for lyrics.

And, yeah, Sally, you might be on to something...

It's terrible. And yes they'll look indignant if you question them. At least you told him.

It's worse when it's a whole group of people congratulating each other on their stupidity.

Not surprising. And in that environment there's probably a minimum 'level' of pride in their sexism they feel they have to have.

Oh and being 19 is no excuse. Not much hope of changing now.

Re: My tennis partner is sexist

Well, I've always thought that finding a tennis partner is almost as difficult as finding a boyfriend. I've dealt with some big time douchebags only because they were pretty competitive in a tennis court. And the same reference can be applied as far as relationships go.

Just go find another one, no need to deal with that crap.

Re: My tennis partner is sexist

^

I've played with him for a while now actually... since October.

I could play with someone else, but it would be hard to just stop playing with him now, because... well... he will still be coming almost every day, and the courts where I play (at my uni) are available only so often. It's winter here, and I don't really have $ to pay for tennis now.

It does leave a bad taste in my mouth

I've already had enough drama with tennis partners... I used to hit with one girl who was acting like a complete bitch, so I stopped hitting with her... and it was just awkward because we both know other people who we play tennis with and I didn't want to run into her

I couldn't associate with someone like that. I wouldn't be able to hide my disgust and things would get very ugly.

Among the more obvious problems with all of this, I think he's confused as to how Saudi Arabia works. Please, somebody let him go there and attempt to build a harem. He can let us know between lashes how that all worked out.

Where to play tennis in Ottawa in winter?

Facts are merely opinions and opinions could be wrong.
