Re: Marina & The Diamonds - 'RADI☢ACTIVE' post #140!
Marina always said she was going to lose some of her TFJ fans with this new era because it was going to be a change but I suppose she had to do something different because no matter how great TFJ was it clearly didn't connect with the public because it didn't sell that much. Unlike Adele and Florence, who both had succesful first albums and were able to tap into their original sound and refine and improve on what they'd already done, Marina has had to go back to scratch and try a different approach, she was never going to be a singer who stands at the front of the stage with an orchestra sat behind her belting out these epic songs, something definately clicked in her head when she went on tour with Katy Perry and that's where this Electra Heart stuff has come from.
The lyrics and the vocals are still very much Marina and the productions are far superior to the DIY sounds of TFJ and on paper these could be the songs that finally give her the success that she craves so much.
But if you ask me, I can't see this being a success for her for a number of reasons, which is a huge shame because she is really talented and a great live performer, and she has an incredible voice that doesn't always come across on her records but live they're stunning. I don't think it will be a succes because there is something about Marina that doesn't click with the public, she's never had a top 10 song, and Radioactive barely limped into the top 25. Also I don't think that 679 records has the money to really push Marina and this record, they've clearly invested a lot of money in this project I just don't think they'll have much left for the promotional push. Lastly only Radio 1 will play her singles and I don't think that they're going to be the right audience for the Electra Heart era.
