Which city will win the 2016 Olympic bid?

Which city do you think(not hope) will win the 2016 Olympics?

The IOC report says all 4 cities have issues. Jacque Rogge said it'll come down to 1 or 2 votes.

Rio has the fewest issues, but crime is a major sticking point. President Lula is expected to attend the voting in Copenhagen on Oct. 2. They think they are the front runner.

Chicago's biggest issue is lack of financial backing from the US Federal government. However Chicago's mayor signed an agreement for the city to pick up the tab if they run a deficit. Michelle Obama will be in Copenhagen for the voting(instead of the President). Chicago was the frontrunner but no longer.

Tokyo and Madrid both planned to have their crown prince in Copenhagen. Since Beijing and London hosted the 2 games before frankly I think they have little chance. It's really a race between Chicago and Rio.

I agree with your points. Out of the two you've chosen, it'd probably go to Chicago. Rio does have major crime issues, therefore they shouldn't hold a massive international tournament there (although, they're going for SA2010 for the World Cup).

I'd like to see Tokyo or Chicago though. I imagine the Tokyo opening ceremony would be amazing.

Rio deserves it way more than Chicago but I reckon the Obama factor will kick in a Chicago will get it

I can see Madrid and Tokyo getting very few votes.

Rio is clearly the favourite, if they don't win I'd be surprised

People should remember that Brazil is hosting the World Cup in 2014 so that might work against them.

U.S. economy is hurting as it is. No need for Chicago to get it and follow in the footsteps of financial disaster, Athens.

Re: Which city will win the 2016 Olympic bid?

Madrid - very good and strong bid, but very unlikely after London 2012. Also the europeans on IOC will not vote for Madrid since few other european cities waiting to bid for 2020/2022 (Paris/Rome/rumours about Amsterdam/and maybe Berlin if Munich 2018 fails)

Tokyo - seems to be technically the best bid. But Asia again after 2008 in Beijing? and Tokyo 2016 would kill the hope for SouthKorean or chinese Wintergames in 2018, so the Asian IOC-Members will most likely not on Tokyo´s side

Chicago - USA is the big market for the IOC, the TV right for the US-Marked bring more then the rest of the world i guess, also they have Obama in the back. So this points could help to get over few financial problems.

Rio - this is the strongest South-american bid ever, sure they are some problems with criminal rate, but this is the chance for the IOC to bring the games to a new part of the world.

not my WTA-Tour anymore

Re: Which city will win the 2016 Olympic bid?

I just got back from Madrid and it seems like they are doing everything to get it, everywhere you went there were posters with 'Madrid 2016'. I hope they get it, beautiful city

But of course with London 2012 it's a very small chance, then I would go for Rio!
