I'm not going to be mean because she's your friend but her life won't end in China will it ?

It'll be just a new chapter in her life and she'll adapt eventually.

I don't know the English law on this, but in the US exceptions have been made for ppl who are considered assets to the country and have legally become adults. (Don't know if that will help her parents, but if your immigration ppl have such leeway she might get a compassionate waiver)

The first thing she ought to do is immediately get letters of reference from her school principal and employer, etc. etc. and take those (along with the university acceptance letter) to her MP. If she's done any public service volunteer work, letters from those organizations too.

Why can't she go to university in the UK ?

She just needs to get a university place and a student visa. Her parents are obviously going to have to pay for it but they would have had to anyway as she's not a British citizen.

It just means a short term return to China until she gets her visa sorted.

Her parents, obviously, are going to have to stay in China though.

It's not that hard.

As long as her parents are willing to pay, the UK welcomes foreign students .

She just needs to get a place at university - should be straightfoward with her A-levels - and then apply for a visa.

Re: Sad Story Of A Girl Name Anne

Maybe her parents felt it was for the best to return to China, so they didn't do their renewals? They must have known they cannot stay without the proper documentation? It may have even been subconscious - this way they don' have to choose to return (could be too hard to make that choice, especially with the daughter, whose life will be hurt by the change), but allow the move to be forced upon them.

I do agree due to her age, she may be able to work something out where she can stay.

If the renewals were that important, then why did her parents neglect them?

No, no, no re the letter being enough! Every British MP has what they call "surgery" generally every week. Here thats only a medical term, in the UK it means in person service to the MP's constituents. If she's serious about staying, she'll get together the stuff I mentioned in post #6 above and go there in person. (If her school principal where she got all A's will go there with her, thats even better) Stop acting like a wuss.
