Anyone here with braces?

I got mine two days ago.

Gosh my mouth hurts very badly.

Does anyone know what I can eat and stuff (After the pain is gone)?

They told me I couldnt eat alot of things, but other people and dentist said I could eat anything. Im not sure.

Plus does anyone have any tips on keeping the clean and everything?

Thanks

Re: Anyone here with braces?

The 1st two days are the worst It gets better after this. I think the only thing I couldn't eat was chewing gum and anything really hard, but apart from that I was fine. Soup is great in the first few days, after that try to chew with your back teeth for a while until the tenderness completely goes away

Worth it in the long run though when you have amazing teeth

I have only been able to eat oatmeal, mashed potatoes and yogurt.

But thanks. I thought I would have to eat that for the length of the treatment.

Re: Anyone here with braces?

What type of braces are they?

But yeah really only the first few days are the most painful and then a day or two after if you have to have rubber bands re-done.

I had train-tracks for 3 years and could eat anything apart from chewy sweets, gum and apples. You do get used to them and forget they're there I promise. The only real discomfort I got were some mouth ulcers where the braces rubbed against the inside of my mouth, but the orthodontist gave me some wax for that. But it is all worth it in the end.

"That's not my wonder! It's just a smelly sock!"

Re: Anyone here with braces?

I had braces for five years and just got them off two months ago. I agree with what everybody said:the first few days are the worst . I also hated when they changed the wires...it felt so tight .

I pretty much ate whatever I wanted when I got mine in, which, in retrospect is probably the reason they were in for so long.

Re: Anyone here with braces?

I had braces back in the day. The only foods that gave me problems were apples and corn on the cob.

Re: Anyone here with braces?

I hated whenever I would break a bracket. Before I could get it fixed, I would just move it around and it was the weirdest feeling

Ok, this is taking me on a trip through memory lane and making me sad

Re: Anyone here with braces?

I used to wear braces for AGES! First time was for three years. Took them off, looked fabulous, ignored the retainers and gaps started appearing! Had to go back on it for another 8 months! Now I do not dare ignore the retainers!

You can eat anything. It will hurt at first, especially when they tighten it. And when you're supposed to use the rubber bands, ask if you can go with powerthreads instead. Less hassle, more pain but for a shorter period.

Cleaning can be a bitch! I did regular brushing and used a safety pin to remove whatever was left stuck on the metal. Your teeth WILL stain, but dont worry too much about it. When the orthodontist removes the braces, he will scale your teeth and they will look FAB!

Uh-oh. What do you mean by "ignoring" the retainers? I just got my retainers but I do not exactly wear them all the time .

In my case, before I wore braces, the dentist extracted 4 teeth. So when all was done and I didn't wear the retainers, the space where the teeth were pulled out started opening up and forming gaps! As a matter of fact, gaps started forming everywhere! INCLUDING between the front two. I looked like Madonna with a bigger gap!

In my sister's case, one of her front teeth started protruding almost to the point where she had trouble clamping her lips together! Can you imagine?

So my advise, USE YOUR RETAINERS! If you really cant stand them, ask the dentist to fit you with a permanent one (a wire behind your teeth).
