Did MJ really sell 750 million albums?

I know he is pretty much the biggest musical superstar EVER, but can anyone confirm this...because it's claimed in a few places including Wikipedia, but even on Wikipedia, the discography breakdown of his sales doesn't even approach 750 million.

I think with her serve and her athleticism, her power, her court mobility, I just think when she’s on, she’s the greatest player we’ve ever seen, ever. Now, whether her record is the greatest remains to be seen because she hasn’t retired yet. But I think she is really the greatest player. I have seen Martina and Steffi at their best. There are little chinks in those players’ armor, but it was a different era, where you didn’t need to be the perfect player.

Re: Did MJ really sell 750 million albums?

wiki is not reliable AT ALL

i dont think that he sold that much even if you add singles sales.
It might get close with all The Jackson 5 and The Jacksons catalog but i still doubt it

I know everyones gets inflated so I suppose COMPARITIVELY it is accurate enough.

Re: Did MJ really sell 750 million albums?

120 million (=thriller) still sells up to 130k in the usa each year
32 million (=dangerous)
30 million (=bad)
20 million (=history)
20 million (=off the wall)

That's the info i found recently, and that's already 222 million and that doesn't include singles and some albums.

Re: Did MJ really sell 750 million albums?

He did, you just have to remeber that he sold all these copeis at the time when there was no internet to download them from and people were actually buying CD's or discs lol

This can't last. This misery can't last. I must remember that and try to control myself. Nothing lasts really. Neither happiness nor despair. Not even life lasts very long. There'll come a time in the future when I shan't mind about this anymore, when I can look back and say quite peacefully and cheerfully how silly I was. No, no, I don't want that time to come ever. I want to remember every minute, always, always to the end of my days.

Re: Did MJ really sell 750 million albums?

In former times the music market was a real gold mine, I once read that "The Beatles" sold one billion copies of singles and albums (this includes vinyl and CDs). Michael Jackson's career extended for some forty years and in the 80ies and early 90ies almost every title on an album was released as single also (for instance: the "Thriller" songs).

So there might be some truth in this unbelievable number.

Every time I crawl past your door, I been wishing I was somebody else instead.

Re: Did MJ really sell 750 million albums?

back in 06 his figures were something like this

22 millions albums sold worldwide with the motown
OTW: 18M
THRILLER: 59M
BAD: 29M
dangerous: 30M
History: 19M
BOTDF: 4.6M
INVINCIBLE: 8.3M
HGHV1: 3M
#1s: 6M
THE ESSENTIAL: 2M

179 millions sold with Epic, so 201 millions worldwide.

For the singles:

15 millions with motown
17 millions of the 9 singles of dangerous
11 millions of the singles of History

Re: Did MJ really sell 750 million albums?

He's sold more than just about every other artist. Number is kind of irrelevant?

Serena. Simona. Ana. Petra. Venus.
Clijsters, Henin, Dementieva, Davenport.
Martina Hingis - "No one else played like Hingis - no one could."

Re: Did MJ really sell 750 million albums?

Supposedly thriller sold 109 million. WOW.

Wikipedia also claims Elvis and the Beatles sold upwards of a billion records each!
