Gay Guys in L.A, San Fran, NYC, Las Vegas & Washington DC, come in here now!

Hey Guys,

I'm an Aussie, heading over to America in August and looking to chat, possibly meet some other tennis players/gay guys 18-32 for a hit, drinks, clubbing etc. whilst on my travels.

Also some help on where to go, what to see, where to eat etc. would be cool too. Will be in all those places mentioned and more, as still have a week to fill in between San Fran and NYC, not sure where to go, so suggestions would be welcome!

Here is my gaydar profile anyway if you want to know a bit more about me

www.gaydar.com.au/tennisplaya

Perhaps guys, you can give me a top five list in your city of places to go see, places to go out in the evening, and places to eat.

Also post your profile links if you have them. What sites do US guys mainly use? D List? Gay.com?

Thanks in advance to all who post ideas here, much appreciated!

Cheers

Well anywhere you play in NYC is going to cost you. Your gonna have to buy a day pass to get to some of the public courts. They are about $7 dollars per hour.

As for things to see in NYC, well you can do the usual touristy things like Central Park, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Empire State Building, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, World Trade Center, Wall Street.

I would suggest just walking around some nice neighborhoods like the West Village and Greenwich Village, they have cafes or restaurants to go to which are nice, but sometimes kinda expensive.

As for clubs and stuff, well I don't go clubbing so I couldn't help you with that.

Hehe $7 is cheap, its costs 4 times than in Australia per hour! I already plan on jogging round Central Park, and I will be at the US Open of course!

Well hey if you think public courts being 7 dollars an hour is cheap thats fine. Usually people buy a $100 dollar season pass which lasts from April-November.

The US Open is in Queens, NY which is the borough I live in. Not too far from Manhattan, just have to take the 7 train from wherever you are in Manhattan, all the way out to the last stop in Queens.

Re: Gay Guys in L.A, San Fran, NYC, Las Vegas & Washington DC, come in here now!

The only advice I'd give is skip LA. You'll have a great time in San Fran and NYC..

If you're in San Fran on a sunday try finding this salsa club that is really popular on a sunday afternoon in the spanish (or is it Latin quarter?). I was there 4 years ago and had an amazing sunny sunday afternoon there.. I cant recall the name of it but all the gay boys went there on a sunday..

Playing tennis in San Fran is pretty easy.. i remember having a few hits there without much fuss getting on a court..

In NYC Id recommend Fire Island for a day trip...

Of even more significance, there's this little gap in Graf's resume the size of the hole in the ozone layer: It's called Monica Seles. Was Graf the best female player of all time? She wasn't even the best in the heart of her career.

Haha, yeah everyone is telling me avoid L.A.

Salsa sounds interesting, will keep that in mind.

Hope the people in US are more friendly over there than on here, only 1 American has helped me so far

LA is a great place and has a lot to offer. People who hate it are usually intimidated by its size/sprawl and/or because they don't know where to go or what to do. Granted, it isn't the easiest place to get around, particularly for unfamiliar tourists, but if you have a proper tour guide, it can be great fun.

For tennis, there are free public courts all throughout southern CA - I've never paid money to play tennis.

LA has tons of great restaurants...as I'm sure you'll be around the gay area (West Hollywood) I recommend Bossa Nova (great Brazilian food) and Hollywood has my favorie Thai restaurant on the planet: Sanamluang. It's a hole in the wall, but has the best authentic Thai food and it's open until like 3 or 4am at least, so it's great after a night of clubbing (we ALWAYS went there after the clubs).

I haven't been clubbing up in LA for quite some time, so I don't know all the latest hot spots, but could ask around if you do stop in LA. West Hollywood has the bulk of gay clubs, so it would be pretty easy to find something there you like.

The Getty Museum across the freeway from UCLA is worth a visit.

I'm not sure exactly what type of "sites" you're interested in, but if you want a site for hookups, its adam4adam.

And if you're already in LA, San Diego would make a great day trip.

Also, if you wanna do some shopping, my favorite mall in LA is the Beverly Center. You could also go to Rodeo Drive in Beveryly Hills, just to check out all the super expensive shops and because it's famous. Also, be sure to go to Melrose...even if you're not looking to shop/buy anything, Melrose is fun just to walk around and hang out...and there are good restuarants on that strip, as well.

Re: Gay Guys in L.A, San Fran, NYC, Las Vegas & Washington DC, come in here now!

I live around DC now, so I'd be happy to tell you more about it. All the attractions here, such as the Holocaust Museum and National Mall are constantly filled with tourists, but they are all free. There are lots of museums and landmarks, so if you're into those, you'll have a great time. As for the nightlife, there are bars and a few huge clubs that are frequented mostly on Friday and Saturday nights. A new club called Town just opened up here and it's a hot spot during those nights. The great thing about DC is that it's metro accessible, so you won't have to worry about renting a car - whereas in LA you almost would have to.

And I strongly suggest going to LA and checking out the West Hollywood area at Santa Monica Boulevard. It's a stretch of road filled with gay bars and clubs. The atmosphere is chill, glamorous and guys there just want to have a good time and party. So please, please don't miss out on LA. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions!

PS. Guys here seem to use all kinds of sites -- like dlist, gay.com and manhunt. I personally don't subscribe to those sites but I have FB.

Haha, agreed! My favorite places in LA are The Abbey (thought it can really, really crowded) and Rage.

If you end up in Orange County, go to House of Blues (Disneyland) and once every month they have gay night and it's pretty awesome. Also, don't forget to go to Laguna Beach -- Lindsay Davenport's hometown -- and hit up this gay-frequented area called West Street Beach. Orange County is very Republican but Laguna Beach is the most liberal place in the area.
