College Students?

Am I the only one who is freaking out about picking a major! I'm a Psych & Communications major right now and Psych is not for me but I really dont know what to do. I have no idea what I want to be. I like soo many things. Marketing, communications, psychology*some parts*, music, and criminal justice.

Oh god, you are in college now? Left baby Wynter home with mommy, or are you staying at home?

Re: College Students?

If you have time, take your time. No reason to hurry. Don't know about your university, but if I remember correctly, in UW we had to declare a major by the time we earned 105 credits. Of course, it also depends on if you have to apply for a certain major and how often they accept applications or if you can just declare it any time. If you have to decide right now, good luck with it. You could always double major or do a minor in something.

This is my second year and yeah I left Wynter at home with mommy. Can I just say Wynter is fucking BEAUTIFUL. She is going to have the boys or girls*who knows * after her and I'm not saying that because she is my sis. She is a cutie, people tell us all the time.

I dont have to decided right now but it is my 2nd year, and I dont want to be in school forever. Plus at my school have to have a minor so that part is taken care of.

The thing I hated most about my first semester of college. Now I'm struggling to get myself back in school, but oh well. Now isn't the right time.

English/education, I'd imagine, would be my double major. I want to be a high school English teacher.

Re: College Students?

Majors really dont matter much. Besides a few very specialized categories, you can get a job in almost anything with a major in almost anything after graduation. People freak shit about them, not realizing that a solid gpa and graduating with a degree are more important for grad school or a job than what the major actually is.

Many college students are in a similiar situation as you, myself included. I read online from one of the university's web pages that when it comes to looking for a job, a company/business/whatever doesn't really care what your major is/was, unless you're going into a specific field like science or medicine. And double majoring doesn't impress them as much as before b/c many ppl are doing it now. So, I wouldn't double major unless I was very interested in both fields.

And another thing, not to burst your bubble or whatnot, but my friend told me that Psych isn't the best field to major in, b/c she has a friend who majored in Psychology and now can't find a decent job b/c there're lotsa Pscyh majors already, which makes for more competition.

I guess that's why my parents, like many others, want me to become a doctor or a lawyer (but I don't wanna be a doctor and I'm not sure about the lawyer thing yet )

So, really in terms of finding a job (don't worry so much about that unless you're a junior/senior undergrad), whatever major you choose, particularly in liberal arts, isn't that important. Double majoring isn't necessary unless you really want to do it. But ultimately, the choice is up to you. Hope that helps.
