Do protein powders work that well? I really want to gain muscle mass. I love exercise and eating healthy so that has always kept me pretty athletic but now I'm trying to build muscle mass

Re: GET IN SHAPE THREAD: Weight-loss, Dieters, and Exercise-enthusiast

I personally think they do in conduction with the right training and healthy eating. I was able to put on 10kgs of muscle.

I started out with a Mass Gainer style protein to add mass. Once I got to my ideal weight I switched to a Whey protein (low carb) and adducted my training a little tone up.

To be honest Im not really sure what the answer to that is as I'm not trained in that sort of stuff. I just know what works for me and do what my PT tells me to do

Dom will probs know to answer to that. U could maybe swap a cardio day for a weight session but I would wait for someone who really knows what they are doing before going with my advice.

I downloaded this app late last year and it has worked wonders for me. I actually find the calorie counting fun too and very easy to help me keep track. I still probably eat food I shouldnt but its in much smaller portions now.

This thread is making me feel very guilty in terms of exercise though. I try to get on the bike or go for a walk everyday but sometimes I just couldn't be bothered. Exercise bores me. Ive been to the gym once in my entire life.

You can do exercise indoors as well and watch tv or listen to music at the same time. You just have to be a little creative with how you do it. If you have an exercise bike you can read at the same time. A lot of people at the gym are listening to music all the time. In some ways, working out is like a fad. You never think it would interest you, then one day you just like doing it.

If you want to gain muscle, you shouldn't be doing cardio the day after gym. You should be lifting heavy, low reps. You should give 48 hours rest before doing weights again. You should see a PT to meet your goals though, this is very general.

To add to what Melange said, it makes your life a lot easier if you come up with exercise you can do at home. There are quite a lot of body weight exercises you can do that aren't bad (burpees, push ups, bridges, pulls up on an open door). Doing some skipping during ad breaks is something I do quite often if it's raining outside; and I do some pilates from a DVD I bought from Amazon. Great for the kind of flexible core strength you need for tennis imo

Well if you wanna gain muscle mass, cardio is completely useless and could make it harder. So yeah you should switch at least one day of cardio to some muscle training. Didnt someone make you a program when you entered the gym? Any other questions?

Re: GET IN SHAPE THREAD: Weight-loss, Dieters, and Exercise-enthusiast

Yay, I was 90kg and now I'm 89kg . I've been 'dieting' for a couple of weeks. I'm not sure I went from 91-90 or whether I've lost 1kg in two weeks. Either way's fine. It's a long-term (like a year-long) thing anyway. My goal weight is 75kg or however long it takes to look decent at the beach .

Ideally I'd be having no fizzy, takeaways, chocolate and such except for like one or two days a week. Like tonight I had BK, but it was the first time I'd had takeaways since Subway a week ago. I've been pretty good. I do slip up, but my resistance to having bad food has really increased, so I get back on track pretty quick .
