Re: What? No Hillary Healthcare Proposal Thread?
Defending the health care system in the U.S. is insane, unless you benefit directly from it by reaping the profits made by a few at the expense of many. Compared with the rest of the world, we're at the head of the pack in terms of the percent of GDP spent on health care, yet we're near the rear in terms of results.
Right now, the premium cost for the HMO I have covering my family is $1,385 per month. How many people can afford that? And we're limited to going to doctors in "our" plan. If I want access to any doctor I choose, the premium cost would be around $3,000 per month for a family plan.
Sure, wealthy people from other countries come to the Mayo Clinic, but that doesn't justify our health care system. A recent visit I made there with a family member that consisted of a blood draw and a fifteen minute consultation cost over $1,200. How many Americans ever get access to that level of care? Not many.
And Samsung 101, being treated in the emergency room is not health care. If you have cancer, you can't afford treatment and you don't have insurance in the U.S. guess what? You're fucked.
