I've found it's cheaper to be fat and unhealthy than being thin and healthy.

At least for the time being. About a year and a half ago I weighed 202 lbs, as a 20 year old male you might deduce that this was not helping me out socially at all. Frustrated and determined, I went on a healthy eating plan and rigourous exercise plan. i had never felt better in my life. I have lost a total of 37 lbs. People complimented me like never before and I got rid of all my fat clothes. I went down from a waist size of 36 to a size of 31/32 depending on the brand. I was able to run 6 miles straight, I had never been able to do that before.Overall I felt great. However, recently I have noticed that being thin and fit is not all it is hyped up to be. One example being,I still don't have a significant other or have even started dating. I had always been overweight and I still could lose 15 lbs. so people weren't really attracted to me. However, people still just want to keep me as a friend and they still say the same thing they said to me before" you're not my type but whoever gets you is lucky." Today I went shopping at Kohl's and they had the best sale they had a variety of polo shirts and other shirts marked down to 2 for $10.00 however, they only had sizes that fit me too large. I have noticed this is true for everything.I am actually having to buy more expensive clothes because very rarely do pants my size make it to the clearance/sale rack. If I need to buy a healthy snack it's like $1.50 more to buy baked chips than fried chips. It's $1.00 more to buy whole grain bread than white bread. It's a little more expensive for skim milk. Oranges are like sky high right now. But, I can still get a whole meal at McDonald's for $3.50. I don't know, I Guess I am very unmotivated right now. But today, I guess I cam to the realization that so many people are obese because it really is cheaper in the short run to live the lifestyle of an obese person.Wouldn't you all agree?

Re: I've found it's cheaper to be fat and unhealthy than being thin and healthy.

yeah but honestly losing the weight shouldn't be for other people but really for yourself. I lost weight because I was sick of being out of shape and wanted to be healthy again. This is not just about you being attrative but also about living a healthy lifestyle for the rest of your life. PLEASE DO NO STOP. I stopped and now i'm back where I was. Stick with it and stay how you are because if you gain it back all this will just seem like a waste. Good luck

If you take the time to cook, eating healthy cost the same as eating junk.

As for clothes... There are cheap clothes for every size.

So, no, I don't think being thin is more expensive.

Re: I've found it's cheaper to be fat and unhealthy than being thin and healthy.

that's a given.
i actually eat well a lot of the time and generally speaking, produce, fresh nuts, and lean meats cost a lot more than potato chips, hoho's, mcdonald's, and twinkies.

i totally disagree about it sucking to be thin. i have genetics on my side, but being in shape is the best thing i can do for myself, both externally and internally. america is about convenience and convenience makes you fat, but that's not the way we're meant to be (as people). it's good that you took the time to lose the weight, but ultimately the kind of person you are will get you the girlfriends, not the looks. they only help and that's with certain girls/people.

Re: I've found it's cheaper to be fat and unhealthy than being thin and healthy.

A big bag of brown rice is very cheap. Legumes cost nothing. A big bag of oat costs nothing. A bag of apples or carrots is very cheap. Potatoes are actually healthy even if they have a high glycemic index. Someone on a budget can eat healthy, though I admit it takes effort and it means being selective.

Also, eating healthy is more filling than eating at Mcdonald's and junk, so you eat less.

Re: I've found it's cheaper to be fat and unhealthy than being thin and healthy.

That's why lots of people are fat. They are lazy and choose the cheap and easy way to do things. Staying thin and looking good is work and can cost a lot. It's more expensive to buy the stuff and prepare a salad than to pick up a Wendy's single on the 99 cent menu. And then you have to spend money if you want to join a gym or get a personal trainer. If you shop at places like Kohls, you'll notice that their clothes are bigger in all sizes because Americans are fat in general. I swear they mark the clothes smaller than they actually are just to make people feel better. "Small?" hon, that was 10 years ago's "Large". If you buy better clothes though, they are more true to size in my experience. As for food, buy what is in season. Orange are sky high now because they're not in season now.

When you get various diseases and complications triggered by obesity, you'll find out that it's cheaper to be slim and fit.

Re: I've found it's cheaper to be fat and unhealthy than being thin and healthy.

ok, well i wanted to say thats sort of a given, but i will add that you can DEFINITELY be thin and unhealthy and "fat" and fit (saw a story about this woman who does long distance swimming in semi-frozen waters. she was overweight technically but VERY fit, and hot to boot).

in the end eating right is expensive (even if you make it yourself time is money. so )

that said, i think thats not a bad thing. i dont mind spending a lot of money on foods (90% of what i eat is organic, all my poultry that i eat is free range or organic) it feels to me to be better use of my money than almost anything thing else i can think of.

Re: I've found it's cheaper to be fat and unhealthy than being thin and healthy.

p.s. where do you live that the McD's meals are $3.50?? even a kids meal is at least $4 here.

p.p.s.
i can however get a bag of those organic pre made fresh salads for $1.99 just ad dressing and like 4 servings add up to 40 maybe 50 calories.

Re: I've found it's cheaper to be fat and unhealthy than being thin and healthy.

What a load of bullshit, even if it is more expensive (which it isn't) to eat/live healthily you should still want to do it purely for the health benefits. And let's face it, everyone thinks fat people are lazy and looks down on them so get on the treadmill and join the fit club!

Re: prices of healthy food, you don't need to splash out on organic produce you just buy low fat. Fresh fruit is cheap as are fresh vegetables and things like rice, pasta, potatoes are all low in fat, are the basis of endless meals and will give you lots of energy for exercise.

Re: I've found it's cheaper to be fat and unhealthy than being thin and healthy.

I'm kind of in a similar position as you are. I'm not fat, but I could stand to lose about 10-15 pounds. For the past three months, pizza and the occasional ice cream aside, I've eaten healthier than I have in my entire life. I haven't even looked at McDonald's since June.

I weigh about 200 pounds, but I'm also like 6'1" so I don't look that bad. All I really need to do is just work out and I'd be fine, it's just getting to that step that's been hard.

Just take a walk every day, or get a membership at a gym. It's not all about the food.

And by the way, while it's more expensive to eat healthier, you'll realize that stuff actually tastes better than the unhealthy stuff after awhile. I eat small portions of grapes or strawberries every day, then I'll have some salad, and I can't imagine a day without some juice or water. I've also never been much of a bread man; if I do eat bread, only wheat, and even then I'll use a tortilla to make a lunchmeat/lettuce/pickle wrap instead most of the time.

Eating healthy is extremely delicious.

Re: I've found it's cheaper to be fat and unhealthy than being thin and healthy.

as someone who came from 200 pounds to 145 pounds i empathize completely
and it took me bloody 2 years to reduce that much
and as for the clothes i never find clothes my size
at 32 inches and nearly 6 ft i hardly find clothes my height at clearance stores

all the dieting made me sick
and finding healthy food is infinitely more expensive than eating junk food

and now if i become slack for one moment i become fat

you're right in one way, usually healthier food is more expensive and let's face it, it doesnt taste that good but the benefit of living a healthier life is totally worth it

about getting/staying on shape is something you should do for yourself as selking said, not to try to fit in

Agreed. I had the same.

Baked chips are not healthy either Healthier, yes, but not healthy by any means.

Also, at least I notice this, I eat about 40-50% less than I used to. As you lose weight, your stomach also shrinks, so you have to buy less food, which means you can spend a bit more on quality food.

Please also try to realize that healthy food just tastes waaaay better. Fresh produce beats a Happy Meal anytime. Luckily, I have always had an aversion towards McDonalds, but everytime I walk past a snackbar I get nauseous cause of the stench.

Concerning the sales, well I guess this could be true. But it probably just means that you have to be at the sales earlier, as the more regular sizes go faster. But paying a bit more for your clothes and feeling comfortable in them beats walking around in a table cloth, in my opinion.

By the way, when cooking, try to cut down on meat. You really don't need meat that much. Instead, eat mushrooms for the protein. Mushrooms are cheaper than meat, and more environment-friendly as well
