HELP needed with my English homework

I have to write a summary about a text, but I don't understand two phrases, could someone try and explain it to me? I would really appreciate it.

What is the actual meaning of the headline "War minus the shooting"? (The text is about sports sponsorships and how other companies who are not official sponsors try to flaunt their brands...)

And I don't understand the last part of this sentence:
"Ambush marketing ... has grown steadily since the practice burst out of bounds a decade ago."

Thanks in advance.

Well, "War minus the shooting" was a comment made by George Orwell, where the meaning basically is that sports involve so much negativity, hatred and jealously and often pleasure at violence, that they may as well be considered wars without gunfire.

"Burst out of bounds" here I think means that Ambush marketing began defying convention and limitations, and so ever since it headed into a new direction (whatever that is ) and became innovative, its popularity increased and it began growing, because it was "different"

Hope this helps I may be wrong, so corrections are appreciated.

Re: HELP needed with my English homework

In sports the term "out of bounds" means that a player has committed a violation by throwing or kicking the ball beyond the permissible field of play. Therefore, he has lost possession of the ball.

I would suppose that the use of the term in marketing means that the advertiser has made a violation or used excessive means in some form. Indeed, there is far too much commercialization in USA sports, especially the Super Bowl with its seemingly endless commercials.

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.
