Re: Al Shartpon says he's deeply saddened by the death of Jerry Falwell
I am not going to shed a tear or claim to be upset by the death of Falwell. However, I am not going to say that I am pleased by it either.
Is the world a better place because he is gone? Frankly, I doubt it. The damage that he did is already done and his death won't remove it. Sure, he won't be around to do any more damage, but I doubt that he really could have anyway. By this point I am pretty certain that people either agreed with his views or they didn't agree with his views. I doubt he was gaining many converts at this point.
Celebrating other's losses is rarely productive. It is better to take joy in one's own successes rather than in other's failures.
