Smile Stranger, may I call you a friend?

We all read a lot of posts on this board but we don't always reply to everything we read. Even though sometimes we think 'great opinion', 'that person is very eloquent', 'what a nice person that is', 'that's exactly what I was thinking', etc...<br />And if we keep thinking that over and over again with the same person we might say 'that could have been one of my friends'. So who are the people you haven't interacted with but who could be friends of yours if you knew them IRL?

Mine are :

-tammysbigsis : she doesn't post much but she's Tammy's big sis so we could talk a lot about tennis. Furthermore she's always very nice and eloquent in her posts. In fact she reminds me of one of my friends so she could definitely be one of my friends too. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

-TheLastUnicorn : he seems like a very nice guy, someone you can talk to about everything. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

So who are yours?

I wasn't going to answer because I'm so new here but I can relate to what selesfan1 said. But before I talk about that I just wanna say that this is a really nice topic and I know exactly how you feel because it's happened to me on other boards where you see people who are really cool (in the real sense) but you never get a chance to talk to them for one reason or another. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

As for what selesfan1 said I worry about that too. For me I take pride in being an honest person so I never like to give people the wrong idea about anything. It's bad enough in real life but online it's worse because they can't see your face when you say something about them especially something nice so it gets kinda strange sometimes if you mean to give them a compliment in a friend-to-friend way and they take as it "OMG! I think he likes me!" And it happens the other way around too. Sometimes I totally take a compliment someone gives me online and get carried away and think the same thing that the person is like into me and stuff and that's so wrong. <img src="redface.gif" border="0"> So you've got to make sure you put a lot of the right emoticons so they get the right idea and not the wrong one. Heh-heh <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

It's also very strange to come up to someone and say "hey do you wanna be friends"?. Often people don't share the same feelings or don't want to get to know you better. this has happened to me on this board and on the old board. See I have tried to meet more guys around my age because most of my friends are girls and I feel I need to have a more balanced group of friends but so far nothing has happened but you know the 3 or 4 people that I would consider friends on this board came to me without me asking them for friendship. So I guess if you wait good things will come. but I mean i envy guys who talk about girls and talk about loosing their virginity and I'm like I can't even relate to this and that seems what guys want to talk about I would like to meet other people that share my interests but who knows like I said sometimes things just pop out of the blue.

"hey do you wanna be friends" is what you're thinking and probably what they're thinking too but you won't know until one of you makes the first move. It's happened to me on my other boards and through going through now several times I know that you'll never know unless you make a move. Sure some of them will blow you off either thinking you're pathetic or what not and don't even think you're pathetic even if they try to make you feel that way because you're the one showing balls by more or less saying "hey do you wanna be friends". Selesfan1 you may wanna try to get over it and see absolutely nothing wrong with thinking or even saying "hey do you wanna be friends". Then you gotta figure out a way to let the person know that without using those exact words or scaring them or whatever. Because you can't see your online buddy-to-be it requires more work and energy that you be better be ready to give out if you really are clicking with the person and I want to start IM'ing or e-mailing. IM'ing is safest I think because it's kinda like an informal e-mail and if they answer that's cool and if they don't it's okay too. <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> And you're right too that good things come to those who wait but you can also make it happen to. It got annoying when Josh kept stalking me everywhere I meant on the net asking to be my friend. <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0"> I felt sorry for the little bugger! <img src="tongue.gif" border="0">

Hush you Pea!<br />I won't tell the things you did to draft some attention. <img src="tongue.gif" border="0">

BTW this thread is not about asking someone to be your friend lol, it's just to say with whom you think you could be friends IRL.

Sorry that I got off track but I think what both selesfan and me were talking about relates to<br />"people you haven't interacted with but who could be friends of yours if you knew them IRL". How it relates is that like selesfan said if we post their names here and stuff then there's a chance they could get the wrong idea if they see their name listed here. They of course could be totally flattered too but what selesfan was saying and I agree is that they could take the compliment like you're trying to get with them or something. I hope that makes sense.

You could do the same in real life but it takes more guts and luck and stuff. So you should take what you learned from making friends online and practice it or what not in real life. Heh-heh <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

I see what Josh meant in his original post. There are quite a few posters whom I like but have never interacted with.

A few:

Josh - not just saying that either!<br />Wiliams_rulez<br />Deira<br />Franziska<br />Brian Stewart

And more that I can't think of right now...

K and I seem to agree on a lot of things.

Posters who seem to take the words right of my mouth (well, more thoughts right of my mind, actually, since I never manage to phrase it as well):

Josh
The freedesigner

and until september 11 I agreed with a lot fingon had to say.

posters I agree with most of the time, but not always:

Williams_Rulez
TBE
sk
...
and many more

Everything you do continues long after you've gone

i haven't interacted with many posters, but from those who i have, i could see myself being "friends" with:

adrian
grant
magda_fan
queenmartina
tennisace
timmbo
and the TTT Gang

i don't like to interact on the board. i learn more by just reading the posts. i.e. at first i had no clue about belgian government until i read the thread on the Sanex WTA webboard created by earthcrystal.
