NBC - wrong to show video - give killer fame in death

Personally, I think NBC was wrong to air the video footage.
So quickly.
So easily.

NBC and other American outlets would not show America the
political cartoon that caused protests and riots last year.
Too serious, too inflammatory, too political, not good for us
to see, not necessary for us to see it. Europe, ditto.

NBC and other sources won't show us a lot of the 9/11 footage
they have, too gory, too sick, too much for our sensitive eyes.

Ditto for the Berg slaying, the Fallujah bodies burning, the two
soldiers bodies found dismembered in Iraq, Muslim killings in
Asia, Pakistan, or what the suicide bombers attacks really
look like in Israel - too much for our eyes. They censor that.

But, this, NBC quickly put it on the air.

Ratings.
Ratings.
Ratings.

Don Imus and his poor words is nothing compared to this misstep by
NBC. I would like to see the same hysteria and coverage on their
decision to show this, that was given to an old radio shock jocks
words. This is an important debate, not what an old geezer said and
apologized for quickly.

What was the rush NBC? Ratings.

A transcript, a glimpse of a few photos, that would have been
enough for tv. Instead, they air it over & over.

It's on the internet, I-Pods, cellphones, computers all over the
world. Kids are looking at it, and a new sicko is probably looking
at it right now, thinking, yeah, that's right.

In the end NBC gave this freak what he wanted. Posthumous fame. Notoriety. He's a martyr in his own sick, twisted mind.

the parents of the victims don't deserve to see that mofo on tv like that;it's like glorifying him in a sense

Re: NBC - wrong to show video - give killer fame in death

Even Howard Kurtz of the Wash. Post, anything but
a conservative, has written that NBC was wrong to
air this.

It was, and is, wrong for NBC to have made it available
so fast.

They copied it before they contacted the cops I believe.
Why?

Why not hand over what is obviously evidence in an
international story?

Ask to copy it, don't presume.

A cartoon - won't show me.
A narcissitic mentally ill man imitating a South Korean
movie and two high school killers, they show me that
w/little hesitation.

Why did he pick NBC?
Will the media ask that question?

Re: NBC - wrong to show video - give killer fame in death

I thought Brian Williams did a very good job of not only portraying the news and media interest side of it, but also how it is viewing this material as a father, spouse, and just plain human. I understand from both points of view why the decision was made to air it. Even if it wasn't for this purpose, it's time our country stops allowing themselves to be blinded by extremely difficult and tough issues. We need to talk as a nation about what we're going to do with people like this and not just label them crazy at the drop of a hat, or blame gun laws, or whatever else we've been fed.

It was wrong. I think it was a sad day for broadcasting and a sad day for anyone who who saw any of the hideous video.

Happiness is like a cat. If you try to coax it or call it, it will avoid you. It will never come. But if you pay no attention to it and go about your business, you'll find it rubbing up against your legs and jumping into your lap. - William Bennett

When this happened, everyone asked, "Why did this happen? What type of individual would do something like this?" The video answered those questions.

The public so involved and they want to know what triggered it anyway - and now we're being given a chance.

He might get notoriety (for what he did anyway), but he probably won't get it in the way he intended. I doubt he wanted people to pity him. No-one is really listening to his message [whatever it was...],

Fox showed it too. Are they wrong?

Of course not. They're being "fair and balanced."

Did it? I haven't watched the videos and I refuse to do so, but from the conversations in our lunch room all the video did was confirm what we already knew about him. It didn't seem to explain how he got that way, what set him off, or even what he was talking about.

So if you've seen it, and you feel this way, can you tell me what answers this video provided? And what information did it provide that could not have been conveyed in other ways? (as an example, you didn't need to see pictures of his victims' bodies to know they were murdered/dead)

Reason is poor propaganda when opposed by the yammering, unceasing lies of shrewd and evil and self-serving men.

You didn't already know anything, you assumed it. It might have been confirmed this time, but that's part of the issue at hand here and in society in general
