Russert's credability questioned in Libby trial - AP

Associated Press story - not Fox or Wash. Times or Sean Hannity or
Rush Limbaugh.

Fitzgerald blocked a move to have Andrea Mitchell's words on the Don Imus
Show played in court - where she said in an interview she, and other
reporters, knew of Plame's job at the CIA. She later recanted that
statement.

Russert said he did not know of the Plame identity prior to talking
to Libby. Libby says Russert told him that at the end of one of their
talks on the phone. Russert says he will not discuss those talks
on the stand, it's confidential.

Russert talked openly and freely of the conversations with Libby
to the FBI after the July 2003 talks. He then refused to discuss
that same series of talks for the investigation under oath.

His reasons for the discrepancy is what he was grilled on by the
defense.

For all the tug of war that goes on in Washington, D.C. - we're finding
these people are all buddies, have dinner with one another, go on
vacation w/one another, and talk to each other reguarly....unless
it gets to court, and it's 'I'm sorry, do I know you.'

In a prior legal matter, Russert took almost the opposite legal stand
about confidentiality.

Russert then went on tv this week to say how he did on the stand.
Since when does a witness get to hype their own testimony as
'news'?

The news media is on trial too, and it is covering up to protect itself.

The Defense got their points in as well - the inconsistency in the
Russert stand. The fact Fitzgerald did not allow the testimony of
Mitchell, and others who were given immunity, to be heard in court.

Perjury and obstruction of justice.

No one is charged with the CIA leak law.
