Thumbs up A newcommer with a results database,

Hi everyone,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for welcoming me and on the same occasion tell you a little about myself and what I am trying to contribute to tennis fans.

I am really passionate about tennis and have been working exclusively in tennis for more than 20 years. Had a great tennis shop in Paris for many years and I still enjoy stringing and looking for new solutions for stringers and new developments in strings. I am now retired and as I am fascinated by following the results of the younger and lesser known players to try keep an eye on the players who may well be the next stars in the game. We are a handful of tennis geeks who have been working hard on this project and now we have a huge, freely accessible data-base, which makes it much easier to keep up with worldwide tennis results in all international singles tournaments affiliated to the ATP, WTA, ITF and ETA.

To get a better idea of how it works, just click on the link to find my introduction to the site and an easy guide to many of its' features :
http://www.coretennis.net/majic/page...ewsletter.html

I hope that many of you will appreciate how we are trying to make tennis results much more passionate and much easier to find.

If anyone is interested in becoming a CT Correspondent, to give us an onsite contact to any of the tournaments which are on our yearly calendar (almost 3,000), then don't hesitate to contact me.

I hope you enjoy the visit,
Bye for now,
JC

Re: A newcommer with a results database,

This is seriously impressive. If it gets enough exposure it could become THE one-stop shop for tennis info. When is the full database going to be available and do you have any plans to include doubles in the future?

Re: A newcommer with a results database,

Whoa, this site looks nice !!!

I really like the way you can follow a player in the draw.
Roll the mouse over one's name and it underlines it in yellow...

good job man

Hey Controlfreak, you just made my day. That's a great comment.

I hope that enough of the others out there feel the same way . . .

Actually the full data base is already online, with daily entries of all match results and every new player who enters an International Tournament Draw for the first time.

The biggest problem is getting accurate and reliable information asap. The number of mistakes made in the USTA match results during the Junior Orange Bowl this week is unbelievable, every day we have to rectify the previous day's postings.

The Official Tournament Calendar is only established until the end of March 2007. As soon as the infos become available, the CoreTennis Calendar will be updated.

We already have more than enough work on our hands with the "singles results", I can't see us going into the doubles, especially with the introduction of "pools" which are going to complicate our task considerably.

Re: A newcommer with a results database,

But are you going to have results from pre-2006?

No way, we are looking ahead, not behind.

We launched the site end August 2006, and we tested the system with only a couple of tournaments in March/April (Indian Wells, Miami) during development, then Roland Garros (May-June) followed by Toronto (August) to see if we had it under control. As it worked fine, we have kept those results in the DB.

Ready for the US Open, on 28th August we launched the general coverage of all tournaments world wide, with the results on line as of that date. We have already covered more than 600 tournaments since then and with an average of about 60-70 tournament/week as of next January, it would not be realist to try to register the events prior to our start-up.
Sorry.

But in order to do any reporting, statistical analysis, H2H, etc, the past results will be needed. You limit the capabilities greatly by omitting those. Couldn't you find a format for getting thse results auto-loaded?

I suppose it's a matter of who your intended audience is.... a lot of people do look to the past in tennis results.

The problems are :
> where to make the cut ?
> where do you go back to : 1st January 2006 > 2005 > 2000 ???
> only the major tournaments : GS - ATP - WTA - ITF ???

It's already a nightmare to get reliable results quickly for Challengers, futures and satellites, in ITF and ETA it's also quite complicated for the smaller tournaments.

Of course to put things into perspective more depth or background is necessary, and I agree with your point of view, but putting it together is someting else . . .

Re: A newcommer with a results database,

If there are to be no past results, my first port of call will still be The WTA Tour Since 1996. But don't worry. After about 10 years have passed, your site will be just as useful to me as the one I mentioned.

Thanks mate, that's exactly the sort of encouragement we need.

But give us a chance, drop in from time to time in the coming years, otherwise some of the 12 year old kids at the Junior Orange Bowl may have made it to Top 10, and even dropped out before you had a chance to see them.

There again you will be able to have a look at their past results and try to understand what happened.
