Male or female? (Asian games)

This file photo taken 08 December 2006 shows India's Santhi Soundarajan crossing the finish line in heat 1 of the women's 800m event on the opening day of the athletics competition for the 15th Asian Games at Khalifa Stadium in Doha, 08 December 2006. Asian Games silver medallist Santhi Soundarajan of India has failed a sex test and will be stripped of her medal, officials said 18 December 2006. "Santhi was subjected to a gender test in Doha and we have received the report which says she failed the test," said Manmohan Singh, chairman of the Indian Olympic Association's Medical Commission. Soundarajan won the silver medal in the women's 800m on 09 December. AFP PHOTO/KARIM JAAFAR/FILES (Photo credit should read KARIM JAAFAR/AFP/Getty Images)

Re: Male or female? (Asian games)

Here is the money she did receive before her disqualification.

TN Govt announces cash award to Santhi Soundarajan
Chennai, Dec 11. (PTI): The Tamil Nadu Government on Sunday announced Rs 15 lakh cash award to Santhi Soundarajan, who bagged the silver medal in the 800m race in Asian Games underway in Doha.

An order to this effect was issued by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, an official release said.

The cash award had been sanctioned recognising the feat of Santhi, despite hailing from a poor family, it said.

Unheralded Santhi picked up the silver clocking 2 minutes, 3.16 seconds behind Mariam Yusuf Jamal of Bahrain on Saturday.
