Birdflu Pandemic!!!!!!

I apologise to all of you who are offended by this, but according to all those researchers and scientists shouldnt we be having a birdflu pandemic about now (well I think I read early 07 but its close enough). I havent read of anyone dying from this disease in a few months now.....

Thank you for everything Mercedes, now please be nice to Socrates for me, perhaps fetch him a bird or two. We love you, always.

Re: Birdflu Pandemic!!!!!!

I might be wrong, but I think they say it could become a pandemic if the virus mutates into a form more easily trasmitable from human to human.

While it's only transmitted from birds to human there are no risks of a pandemic, but they don't know what the chances of the virus mutating are.

I thought that they said it should have mutated by now and became untreatable

I want to get that Monkeypox.

Re: Birdflu Pandemic!!!!!!

That must have been speculations. No one knows when (or if) the virus will mutate and be transmitable from human to human.

The way it's looking, I think it's inevitable it will happen. Scientists are talking about this for years and years.

Re: Birdflu Pandemic!!!!!!

Well, seven years ago they found dead birds in front of my downtown loft in Baltimore that tested positive for West Nile. The city began spraying during the nighttime the next week. I'm still here.

I do think these doomsday scenarios with Birdflu and West Nile are a bit blown out of proportion. There is always a risk of pandemic flu throughout the world at any given time, but the circumstances have to be just right for it to actually occur.

And with the improvement in health care technology/medicine throughout the world, it is less likely to affect the world as adversely as other pandemics in the early 1900's when medicine wasn't as advanced.

It seems to me that the evil corporate drug companies are just praying and wishing that governments throughout the world will heed these "warnings" and purchase billions of dollars worth of anti-virals.

But then again, Mother Marjorie could be wrong.
