Nobel winner says spend on women, not bombs

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Iranian Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi said on Saturday nations with nuclear capabilities should spend money to stop exploitation of women instead of making bombs.

The lawyer, in India to promote women's rights, said governments often said they lacked the funds to improve women's lives, but added that they had no financial constraints when it came to manufacturing nuclear bombs.

"I think no country needs bombs -- not India, Pakistan, Iran, America, or Israel," Ebadi said through a translator at a news conference in New Delhi.
Ebadi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003, said poverty was the main reason why women became sex workers and that no one would sell their body for the pleasure of others unless they were in dire financial need.

She said that although prostitution was illegal in many countries, authorities often favored the client rather than trying to understand the plight of the woman.

Ebadi said in an interview with a French newspaper on Friday that the world's focus on Tehran's nuclear program was overshadowing human rights abuses there.

Re: Nobel winner says spend on women, not bombs

Well, I've certainly spent a lot more money on women than I have on bombs.

Surprising, eh? I am a regular guy, Drake. Not a pervert like puff who likes golden showers. Regular guys like me get action. But I am not married and have no intention of settling down. Maybe when I am 50 I will. But I am happy with my life as it is. It is nice to be able to date but where there is not too much attachement with that person.

He's one of the "clients" Ms. Ebadi was referring to.....

"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." -- Herb Brooks

"A man who views the world the same at 50 as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life." -- Muhammad Ali

Re: Nobel winner says spend on women, not bombs

She could say this in the USA without any problems, no attacks or
threats to her....and gee, we have bombs.

Lots of them.

She could not say this, and probably live, in Iran or North Korea,
or even China for that matter.

Wonder why.

In a dream world, we'd all hold hands and sing songs together.
In a dream world, no one would ever be sick, and all of us would
be happy and fed and wonderful.

Sorry, in the real world, there are those who hate women like her
who speak their minds freely, dare to speak at all, and who are
championed by many in the world. Those who hate that, have a whole
lot of bombs, and oil money and fill up Wal Mart with goodies to sell
to the USA, so they can keep buiding up the largest military in the
world - China.

If it were not for the 'bombs' there would be a lot of communists
and Nazis in Europe, there would be a lot more headless women in
Afghanistan, and even in Iraq, you'd find a lot more women forced
to do the bidding of old Kusay and Uday whever they wanted it,
and their military- for which the troops were rewarded not punished
for raping women. If not for those bombs, who knows what North Korea
would have done to South Korea by now ,and what Taiwan would face
if China knew no one could match what they have to take out the
nation they want back.

why did you delete your previous message which was the same as this one and had a picture of your doll? Scared that I would notice and point that out to you for your lack or originality?
