Seizures...anyone else had one?

I had a seizure this morning on my way to work. All I remember was having a bunch of strangers looking over the top of me. A nice lady called Mel gave me a lift to the hospital where I was prodded and drained of blood.

I had a seizure 2 years ago, so second offense now. Looks like I'll be on meds. Seeing the neurologist tomorrow. My CAT scan showed up fine but unsure about my test results for bloods.

I'm just really sore and "scattered" now. So many things going through my head. Just wondering if other peeps here have had a seizure/fit before and how it panned out? I think mine was stress related but unsure.

If I'm diagnosed as epileptic, I have no choice but to make massive life changes. I'm pretty freaked out at the moment.

I think i had one one time, but I've never been diagnosed (to my knowledge) as having epilepsy.

I havn't been either yet. The eeg will determine that. Apparently 20% of peeps have a seizure in their life, it's when you have a second that they begin to diagnose.

I woke up with bruises all down my right side last Wednesday, so it's possibly 2 in a week for me. I wasn't as sore then as I am now though.

I have not had one myself, but my sister had one in the past. Fortunately she recovered again. I hope things will be ok for you as well, Kirt.

Re: Seizures...anyone else had one?

Just went through a huge two/three year ordeal with seizures, not me, but my husband.

He had a seizure many years ago, but then had another three years ago. Went to the Doctor, got an MRI and they found a brain tumor. They operated and got it but left a little staph infection gift in the process. They removed the plate in his head and removed the staph, leaving the plate out while he was on iv antiobiotics for a month. They put the plate back in but he kept having seizures (more than one kind). He had another operation in which they took part of his brain a year ago and he hasn't had a seizure since *knock on wood*. He is now being allowed to cut down on his seizure meds (he was taking dilantin, carbatrol, and keppra in very high dosages). Sometimes he could feel the seizures coming on but other times he had no idea.

It's frightening and horrifying for the person having the seizure. Most of my husband's he was there the entire time and knew what was going on around him but couldn't communicate. There was a long period in which he couldn't drive. All aspects of his life changed.

We are incredibly lucky that last surgery worked and he is now driving again and seizure free for over a year. But for awhile things were very scary.

Please go see a doctor Kirt, and one that you're comfortable with.

Also feel free to ask me any questions you like. I know not all situations are the same but it sure is nice to have someone to talk to as a support system.

Re: Seizures...anyone else had one?

I'm sorry to read of your suffering mate .

I think you'll find that the uncertainty will be worse than the treatment if any is needed.

One of the few useful things I took from the days when I used to be a trainee in neurology (which I HATED more than life itself) is that scans and electrical tests are of limited use in diagnosing epilepsy so I wouldn't pin too much hope on them yielding any answers (if you are.)

If you are diagnosed with epilepsy - and that's a big 'if' - it is nowadays a very treatable condition and it'll all work out in the end I'm sure .

Ty Sonja, I'll certainly PM you if I have any queries. I'm happy for you that youre hubby appears to have gotton ontop of things. I'm actually going to see my GP tomorrow for a second opinion regaurding anti-seizure meds. Although I don't drive, I'm a manager with KFC, hense working around some pretty dangerous equipment. I may have no choice, but we can only see how things pan out.

Thanks Kart. Yes the doctor yesterday said that an eeg is more helpful to them than a CAT scan. I know there are alot of people living full and happy lives on the anti seizure meds, but I did some research last night on the net. If I am put on them I will have to stop drinking and I'm a booze hound . So maybe some huge life changes mate. Thanks again.

Re: Seizures...anyone else had one?

My dad has epilepsy. Hes had it for as long as I can remember. He takes his medicine twice a day, and its like 4 doses, its crazy. It still hasnt stopped him from having about one or two a year though.
