Dixie Chicks Documentary - election issue? Please....they wish

Reuters today has a story on how the new Dixie Chicks
documentary (distributed by Weinstein brothers), and
how it could, gasp, be an election issue.

Let me see, Iraq or immigration or taxes or
The Dixie Chicks? What is going to make
me vote? Bush, Lieberman, McCain,
Rush Limbaugh, Stephanie Miller, Franken,
Kennedy, Clinton...Dixie Chicks. Something
just doesn't fit does it?

They had death threats!
People snarled at them!
They weren't played on all the country stations!
Country fans abandoned them!
The far right hates them.

Hu-hum, the far right doesn't care about
you. That's what happened. They just
didn't buy your CD. Don't hate you, don't
like you, didn't want to spend $18.00 at
evil Walmart to buy your CD. What's the
big deal?

Famous people who make controversial
comments get weirdos on their answering
machines, a few sickos making bad comments.
Ask Mel Gibson, I'm sure he's had quite a few
lately. John Rocker too. I'm sure lots of Christian
groups get this stuff regularlly from the anti-Christian

Get over yourselves.

Boo hoo....
what a great Public Relations campaign.
The CD did well at first, and now it's just so-so.
Concerts selling well, just not all over the place.

Seriously, I applaud the PR firm that has led this
wonderful campaign. Time Magazine, Weinstein
Brothers giving it the Oscar treatment in time for
the election.

Only one problem: they're very hard to like.
They come across as whiners. The more Natalie
opens her mouth, the more I dislike her- personality.
Great voice, great talent, fun songs, she's a huge
pain in the neck. Talk about self-absorbed.

Hey, who wants to see you if you put country music
fans down as stupid, and how you didn't want to be
in the same CD collection as Reba McIntire.
I'm not a big fan of Reba, but, the woman has a tv
show, has been on Broadway, been nominated for a
Tony, been in feature films, and has Grammys galore.
All that w/o being a jerk.

Imagine that.

Ka-ching. The documentary is about one thing: green.

Woe is me............I'm only making two million from the CD,
not $2.5 or $3 million. My first amendment rights are being
stomped on! People are saying bad things about me! I'm
being abused as a citizen in this fascist society! Where's
the limo?Where's the private jet? I need an Aruba vacation!
You go Dixie Chicks....I applaud the capitalist PR campaign -
brilliant work.

Wide Open Spaces, great song, still like it.

The Dixie Chicks are coming dangerously close to Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson territory in my mind, which is not a compliment.

Whitney Houston and her receipts:

Sinaed O'Connor's career survived flaming Pope JP2 a lot more savagely than the stuff Natalie & Co. say about W. (Though I'm sure she took a financial hit for it).
