iPod question...

Yeah, so I've got a brand new iPod nano and if I'm not mistaken the battery life should be about 12 hours right (while playing music)?

Well I've only been using it sparingly (about several times) this week and not more than 1 hour each time. I definitely didn't play it anywhere near the 12 hours stated.

So do I have a faulty battery or is it normal?

Thanks to anyone who replies.

Mine never lasts as long as it is meant to either but I associate that with having it at pretty much full volume whenever i listen (I dance while listening to music ) ... Also I play around with it alot choosing songs, so the backlight it on alot, and I play solitaire on it sometimes in bed. So it doesn't last the 12 hours .... maybe only 1/4 of that.

it only last for 12 hours when you don't push any button (like skip songs etc) and when you have your lights out.

if its brand new you need to calibrate.

if you dont know what calibration is, then you havent it dont yet, and need to look it up in the manual. if you have calibrated, then call apple because it should NOT be getting you less than 1 hour.

if you have not calibrated it AND its more than a few days old (say 5) than you need to reset the power sink (sp?) and THEN calibrate.

but it sounds like you have not calibrated yet have you?

i always fully charge my nano, but it only lasts about 5hrs TOPS!

But if i don't manually change songs and etc and just leave it on shuffle it can go about 6-8 hrs.

that the other thing, with anything cellphone, laptops, ipods, you should calibrate every so often, (i like once every 2-3 months, others say as often as once a month, blah i think thats too often, but you know it needs to be done).

resetting the battery.

check your manual depending on which one you have it will be slight different. it usually involves draining the battery to the point where it will not play or do anything. letting it sit in this fully discharged state from for between 2-5 hours. recharging them completely (without disconnecting them at any point in the charging process) and letting them sit in the fully charged and connected state for 2-5 hours.

again the specifics of this vary so you should do it EXACTLY as your manual states.

this will aid in battery read out and total battery time. In my experience any device that has never been calibrated will see 10%-40% less in batt time than one that was in the first fews of ownership and done to specs.

It seems there's something wrong but I don't know why...

you should take it to an apple store and have it looked it. if there is something wrong that cant be fixed, they can replace it right away.

Nice of Apple bringing on the market Ipod which doesn't work properly... And my Itunes of course doesn't recognize my Ipod ! I think, I gonna bring it to my PC retailer and asking where the problem come from !
