Anyone see the new Superman? (Spoilers inside)

I just saw it and liked it a lot! I like Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor better than Gene Hackman. The guy who played superman himself was not all that bad, but I missed Margo "hiding in the bushes because I'm pyschotic" Kidder . The idea of Superman being portrayed as a deadbeat dad did not sit well with me though

Just saw it. It was okay, wasn't really amazing or anything. I think Kevin Spacey was great as Lex Luther. The plot was kind of predictable but it was okay. I think Tom Welling would have been a better Superman.

I actually liked the movie. I think that Brandon Routh did a good job as Superman, and I must say I didn't mind seeing him in his tights! Some of the plot was kind of predictible, but I pretty much expected that since it is an action movie. It was definitely my favorite Superman movie, and I still think that Terri Hatcher was the best Lois Lane ever. You don't see her showing up homeless on people's doorsteps with one tooth reeking of Jack Daniels.

This digital super-sizing of the classic 1978 film boldly positions itself as a values-driven, post 9-11 blockbuster with brains and heart. Directed by Bryan Singer (X-Men 1 & 2), it deftly fuses massively entertaining spectacle with surprisingly potent drama as Superman (Brandon Routh) considers whether his love for Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) is worth breaking up a family for.

Superman is a great superhero but he does not have appealing supervillains like with Spiderman. Lex Luthor is just an ordinary guy. There are great villains like General Zod, Cyborg and Brainiac but they are not as charismatic as Spidey villains like Venom, Green Goblin and Octopus. I would love the 'Death of Superman' to be filmed as they were planning on doing with Nicolas Cage as Superman and Tim Burton directing a few years back. The project was called of though because the budget was too high and at that time superhero movies were not made and thus it was not certain or not whether they would be profitable.

I read the script Tim Burton was going to use and couldn't stop laughing at how silly it was (it was kind of like the Will Smith movie Wild Wild West). Very wise decision to avoid that Death of Superman project, and very wise to make Superman Returns the thinking man's superhero (plus Superman is virtually dead in Superman Returns anyway). Still, its all about personal taste, and many people don't like the cartoonish style of Spiderman and prefer drama and character depth to add meaning to the superhero (while maintaining great action). The fact that people in the cinema were crying on 3 seperate occasions during Superman Returns (my screening and others I heard about) shows the power of such an epic movie experience. You can't find the same sense of importance in a Spiderman/Batman/Xmen movie.

Saw the movie this afternoon, and I thought it was pretty good.

But I'm not entirely sure how Superman figure out the kid was his.... he wasn't there when he threw the piano.

Anyway, I reckon you change the title thread to "Anyone see the new superman? I can't believe Lois dies!"

I saw it last night, I thought it was pretty boring actually. And there was no major confrontation AT ALL. No big fights. Just some sappy moments and Superman saving a lot of ordinary people. Yawn.

The best things in the movie were Parker Posey and Brandon Routh (as eye candy).

Saw it yesterday and enjoyed it very much. Of course, IMHO, no sequel or other version can beat the first Superman movie. I didn't think they'd be able to find an actor that could fill Christopher Reeve's shoes; amazingly, they found a good fit in Brandon Routh. The new Lois (Terri Hatcher) is gorgeous.

One comment though, why did Lois have to lie to her fiance in saying she didn't love Superman while she very much did? Did she as well let him think the kid was his own? Ahhh... women! One can't fully trust them in that matter.

i saw it last wednesday and i thought it was good. i really like brandon routh as the new superman. the movie was not as fast paced as i thought it would be, so i would give it an 8 out of 10. i have to say i have not seen the other superman movie so i really cant compare.

I liked the movie a lot. Superman is too good though but why must he fight an ordinary man in Lex Luther.
