Post World Cup 2006 - S.Korea & Switzerland have one foot in 2nd round; France in trouble

With France drawing 1-1 against S.Korea and Switzerland won 2-0 against Togo, Group G looks very interesting....

S. Korea is facing Switzerland, while France is up against Togo in the last group matches.

Now Switzerland is leading the group with 4 points (2 goals and none conceeded). S.Korea is next at 4 points also (3 goals but conceed 2). France is 3rd with 2 points (1 goal and 1 conceeded). I don't have to explain about Togo since they're already out of the tournament.

France needs to win, and hope that either Switzerland or South Korea lose.

If the Switzerland - South Korea match ended 0-0 or 1-1, France needs to score 2 goals (if they do not conceed) or more (if they conceed goals) to qualify at South Korea's expense. However, in the event it ends in a 2-2 or higher draw score, France is taking the next flight home.

This is how thin the group is... and I am afraid France is the biggest casualty here.

they Fifa rules are difficult but following the analist on television a 2-2 draw between S. Korea and Switzerland should be enough to go on.

If that case France is qualified for next round

if france win with 2 goals difference they are through for sure. the result from the other match can only affect whether they will end in the 1st or the 2nd place in the group. if the other match does not end with a draw france simply need to win, but they will end up in the 2nd place. i expect the latter to happen. each way, france must win.

The result against Togo won't count if 3 team tied.

So if we do that these are the standings:
1. France 2 points (1-1)
2. S. Korea 1 point (1-1)
3. Switzerland 1 point (0-0)

So a draw between korea and Swiss 2-2 or bigger will eliminate France.

then the criterium is the number of goals

Yeah:
1. Result in matches between other number ones
2. goal difference
3. goals scored

If it's still tied a drawing will decide.

If either the Switzerland-South Korea match doesn't end in a draw and France wins, France is through, no matter what the score.

Which youth? They only selected Ribery, not Rothen or Giuly.
