Do you think a guy is cheap if........

he uses a coupon on the first date? I was listening to the radio and a woman called in talking about how a guy used one on their first date. Personally I don't think it's bad at all if the guy paid for the date. It may be a bit gutbucket and ghetto otherwise I see little wrong with using a coupon.

Well, it seems kind of odd and cheap, I guess. But if the woman picked the place and he accidentally happened to have coupons..

But if he picked the place based on him having coupons for it, it's cheap!

yes he is cheap AND not too bright.

if money is an issue, he should say, hey i am a modern man, would you be willing to go dutch. if she says, no shes a golden digger, and he sort of ends up ahead because now he can sort of call it off, or use the coupon and make her feel like the bad person she is for trying to take his money.

I see what you are saying but why is using a coupon an indication that a guy doesn't have the money to pay? I take that he was just trying to save a few bucks on the date. Wouldn't that be better than offering to go dutch?

I really don't get the dutch thing because I have never had a women pay for a date. Now that is tacky in my opinion unless you are in a serious relationship(married, together for years).

Sorry but I fail to see how asking the woman to pay for her meal is better than using a coupon? I don't think I'd do it (what date-worthy restaurants have coupons anyway?) but I don't think he's necessarily cheap because of it. It depends on where the guy took her.

There's nothing wrong with being sensible about money. At least with a guy that is willing to use coupons, she knows he isn't throwing money away. That could equal financial stability for her with him.

If he's hot with a big dick, it's fine. If not, he's cheap and not worthy of a second date.

ok, if he's not broke, he likes to save ... maybe too much?

now about going dutch i am SHOCKED!!!!!!!!! i have ALWAYS gone dutch on first dates. it feels 10X better for everyone. i feel its a matter of respect and a sign that someone is able to take care of their own needs. having someone pay for you is to me very bad early on. it means that you cant tend to yourself and that you need to be tended to like a child or pet. plus if someone can take care of their own needs but asks or expects someone to do it for them that seems parasitic to me whether it be intentional or not, its still seems parasitic . but if u go dutch you are expressing mutual respect as well as showing someone that you are self reliant. see? that to me is much better.

I think it's cheap BUT I also wouldn't expect him to pay for me on the first date. I never went for that because I don't like owing anybody anything and if the date doesn't go well, he can't hang that 'stuff" on me that he paid for me, etc over my head.

Oh man, the first date you are trying to impress...that would mean his need to save money would outweigh his need to impress you which means .............SUPER cheap.

There's nothing worse than a cheap man, one that complains about too many lights on and how much you spent on that dress.

You are right! And money issues can kill a relationship. And cheap people find it very hard to change, because it's not just about money, it's about (a) generousity of spirit, and (b) control.

BUT, that being said,

If a guy really is cheap, and doesn't intend to change, and wants a girl who will accept that, I guess he should just go ahead and pay with the coupon and be cheap from the get-go. That way the potential girlfriend/wife will know what she is getting into from the start and can use that in deciding if he is right for her.

No its not cheap. I actually find it very stupid that the guy is even expected to pay for a girl. The girl should be attracted to the guy naturally and not because he pays for her or tries to impress her in whatever way.
