Heatwave (Always And Forever) Singer Johnnie Wilder Jr. Dies at 56

For the old Crows. Heatwave is legendary. I'm a hip hop Mom but every now and again I don't mind hearing some Boogie Nights.

Condolences to the Wilder family.

Heatwave Singer Johnnie Wilder Jr. Dies at 56
Wednesday, May 17, 2006

CLAYTON, Ohio — Johnnie Wilder Junior, the lead singer of the 1970s and 1980s R&B band Heatwave has died. He was 56.

Wilder's daughter Carla Hawkins says her father died in his sleep Saturday at his home in Clayton, about ten miles northwest of Dayton.

Wilder founded Heatwave with his brother Keith Wilder. The band, best known for the hit "Always and Forever," was nominated for two Grammy awards.

In February 1976 a van struck Wilder's car, paralyzing him from the neck down and hospitalizing him for a year.

He later recorded other albums with the group and launched a gospel career.

Wilder is survived by his daughter and his wife Rosalyn, as well as his four brothers.

Funeral services will be held Friday in Dayton.

Wow I had no idea. I remember Always and Forever being a big hit with my generation when we were younger.

God Bless him and his family.

I've only attended one wedding where that song wasn't played: MINE.

"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." -- Herb Brooks

"A man who views the world the same at 50 as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life." -- Muhammad Ali

Hehe I am 39. I remember in junior high in the weekly newspaper, boys and girls would dedicate that song to each other.
