My Drama with Apple Computer and how i got a top of the line upgrade free.

this is long but worth it.

So in feb my ibook broke this was entirely my fault. i just plain didnt take good care of it. throwing it across the room and so on.

anyway, by this point, it macbook pros had already been announced and i thought (rightly so) that getting an ibook at that point was a bad idea. and i could not wait. so i decided to get a mac book pro. so i got a 15in, 120gb and 1gb ram. with the 1.83 processor not bad. but i had to wait a month for it. so in that time i got an imac, and returned it, not because i didnt like it but because having two computers was not a good idea. and if they both work for my useage it is a bad idea.

so ok in the middle of march the macbook pro arrives. by this point the thing had not been out on the market for very long. and there were a few isolated reports of noise but no big deal.

mine gets here and at first its great. but within 3 weeks a number of problems appear:

the LOUD whining noise,
the dvd the would not read dvds
kernal panics 2 times a day (i had m ibook for 18 months and only had one or two panics.)
crashing of quicktime.
would not stay asleep

so i sent it in for repair, and they replaced the motherboard and another part. at first its fine but within a week we had kernal panics. ok so i to avoid loosing my puter for another week i take it the apple store every time there is a problem. so as a result i ended up living at the apple store soho for weeks. one time it was sooo sad, i walked in to my repair appoint ment. they opened up the computer and started it up and it crashed at start up and after 2 restarts when it finally got going they tried to put in a dvd to do a hardware test but the computer would not read the dvd. ha!

so at this point i decided it was time to try to get this thing replaced. ok fine. by this point its may already. so i make a few phone calls. and by monday morning i am on the phone with some highlevel customer support and arranged for me to mail in my machine and i will be shipped a replacement. ok the whole thing takes 2 weeks and yesterday i finally get the damn thing. YAY!!!

so mind you i first got this in thing in my hands in march. and its may 16th. all that time i have spent trying to get something that works. ok. so i get the NEW one. which is 15in, 1.83 ghz, 1 gig ram, 120gb hd just like what i bought in may. yeah!!! ok so first thing i do is pop in the dvd that came with it to empty out some languages....

FUCKING SHIT!!! this thing spins
and spins
and spins
and spins
so after a few minutes, i just try to eject it.

nothing happens. well it does stop spining.

on fine. in restart it should eject the disc or mount it. so i restart.

fucking ass.

now it wont mount the disc, eject it or even spin... this shit just ate the disc.

wtf? fine i call tech support. and asked to be transfered to the high level customer support. and the guy on the phone feels instead like giving me a lecture about why its good to have 123,342,343,564,263,985 languages on my computer i will never use and how if i had not tried to delete them this would of never happened. total bs. but after being on the phone for 1 hour no transfer. jiggly walks around relaxes and returns to the phone i call again and this time i get transfered right away and speak with a very nice lady.

she says she is really sorry and is willing to take that machine back and send me a new one after looking at the pages and pages and pages of case notes for my account. i told her that i really needed something asap and 2 more weeks waiting would not be ok. i told her i was willing to go to a store and return it and buy a new one right there. "sorry thats not something we can do" fine. i was willing to pay for an upgrade and do an exchange and pay the difference. no go. after looking for a while at all the options she finds a model that has at least everything i had on mine, but it is 17in. fine i will pay the difference i just need something that works. no worries she says, we are really sorry you had to go through this and take care for this for you.

so after more waiting, there is a machine that at least has everything mine did at a nearby store. it is 17in but i wont have to pay the difference, i really like the smaller laptops but i am in no place to make demands. so i get to the store and there is more waiting because this is not something that happens. after much waiting i notice the store is mad packed and there was a person there that...

OH SHIT THATS SEAL, you know the singer, so i keep cool, no one seems to notice, plus i cant really move around because i am waiting for... something that will result in me getting a computer that works. ok.

so i get upstairs, have my old machine taken away and am shown my new computer....

its the top of the line mack book pro with 17in screen, 1 gb ram, 120gb hd, dual core 2.16 processors. really nice. this thing is BIG. and it works.

after playing with it at the store to make sure it works. i get to take home the top of line machine. which for now works like a charm, and is not rumored to have any of the problems the 15in machines have.



i am typing on it now, and it is NICE!!! way to go apple!!! jiggly is happy!!!

dont ya just love upgrades!!!

bought a 2k aluminium bicycle a while back, a weld came unstuck and they ( http://www2.trekbikes.com/lang_redirect.php?redir=%2F ) gave me a 6k carbon fibre bike as a replacement.

i was stoked!!!

wow that is super hot! yeah upgrades are hotness.

so far this new baby has none of the problems with the old one and I am super happy.

I can't be bothered to read your story but congrats. I've had like 4 things go wrong with mine since last June. 1000 worth of damage, according to Apple. It's under warranty, though.

Women's tennis sucks.
