No, of course not, but compulsive lying is entirely different from lying occasionally.
I know someone that does just that, it's as if he cannot help it. It's actually very difficult to know how to deal with it, because you know
when he is doing it, and he knows that you know when he does it. It helps to look at it more as an affliction, because he probably hates it about himself, and it's easier to empathise with an 'illness' per se, however psychological it is. And every time that I've confronted him about it he gets very defensive and it only leads to bad feeling. He's clearly got self-confidence issues, and it means that he lies about himself to make himself feel better, and to impress others so that he feels better about himself. There is no need for it, and we've told him, but he just denies it blindly.
I just tend to let him get on with it now, and it's a shame because we were once really good friends.
