Though there are probably people who think I should go to prison for this, I think Linda Ronstadt's cover of "Crazy" is better than the original. Her cover of "Desperado" is definitely better than the original.

Other covers I think are really, really good:

Baby It's You--A Group Called Smith
I Heard It Through the Grapevine--Gladys Knight & the Pips
Roll Over Beethoven--The Beatles
Land of a Thousand Dances--Patti Smith
Respect--Aretha Franklin
I Drove All Night--Cindy Lauper
Ain't Too Proud to Beg--The Rolling Stones
Nothing Compares 2U--Sinead O'Connor
Proud Mary--Ike & Tina Turner
Love Will Never Do Without You--Macy Gray (I don't know if she recorded it)
After the Gold Rush--Natalie Merchant

No, just to the mental hospital. ("Worst pun ever.")

Actually, I don't like both versions, really (Willie Nelson's and Ronstadt's). I do like Patsy Cline's version for some reason (probably because it doesn't sound so "country").

Amazing!
Her version of Enjoy the Silence, which is on the same album is great too.

Another good example is Joss Stone performing God only knows by the Beach Boys. Different, but so right.

Didn't know that was a cover

Anyway, I love Jamie Cullum's cover of 'Everlasting Love'

I know I've been a liar
And I know I've been a fool
I hope we didn't break it
But I'm glad we broke the rules
My cave is deep now
Yet your light is shining through
I cover my eyes
Still all I see is you

Yeah, a cover of "Fell in love with a girl" by White Stripes!

Forgot to mention Tom Jones & The Cardigans "Burning down the house", coz the
original version sounded too funny when I heard it!

I have a new one. Giant Drag does the most badass cover of Wicked Game...and Annie (the singer/guitarist) claims that she was dating Chris Isaac when she was 8 and he stole the song from her

"He left me with a broken heart and a broken hymen..."
