A 160-year-old tortoise

Timothy, who weighed 11 pounds (5kg), was found in 1854 on board a Portuguese privateer by Captain John Courtenay Everard of the Royal Navy, a relative of the 10th Earl of Devon. He went on to become the ship's mascot during the Crimean War. He then stayed aboard a succession of naval vessels until given a life ashore in 1892 and was looked after by the members of the Courtenay family ever since. He lived at Powderham Castle near Exeter, England and was owned by Lady Gabrielle Courtenay. He arrived there fully-grown in the late 19th Century. The castle's Rose Garden had been his home since 1935. In recent years, he wore a tag reading: "My name is Timothy. I am very old - please do not pick me up." During his stay, Timothy showed a keen instinct for survival, even digging his own air raid shelter under a set of terrace steps during World War II after feeling the vibrations of bombs in Exeter. This year he emerged from hibernation as usual in February, but was suffering from colds and had developed breathing difficulties. He died two months later at age 160. (in 2004)

(July 4th, 1994 - August 5th, 2009) I love you so much... I miss you so...

He outlived those teenage mutant ninja turtles. Or are they still around... waiting to make a comeback as the twentysomething mutant ninja turtles?

I remember I heard about this little guy before.

I wondered what the record age for a tortoise was and it turns out to be either 188 or 192 years old:
