The Stones were blue eyed soul before there was such a thing: "Brown Sugar' is classic. And I love "Mother's Little Helper" and "Sympathy for the Devil."
That said, the Beatles, mainly John Lennon sang of peace and hope and unity. Paul (lightweight) Ringo (irrelevant) and George (Had his moment with "My Sweet Lord") would probably have been one-hit wonders without the powerful influence of John Lennon.

What? The Stones got top ten hits from the mid sixties to the mid eighties. Satisfaction is among the rock classics. You still hear them reguarly on the radio, why's that? The Stones are behind the Beatles one of the most successful bands ever in history.
