Free Stuff! No, Really!

(Columbia) - There's a saying that nothing in life is free, but if you log onto one web site, everything IS free. With just the right click of the keys to the freecycle.org web site, you may find just what your looking for; free of charge. Ads can range from free pets, to clothes, and even plants.

Kenny Adams and his wife Natasha started the local version of this web site three months ago with just two members. They now have more than 250. Adams says itís important everyone stays around here, "We wanted it to be something local, all you have to do is drop off and pick up."

Adams emphasizes everything is free.

In cities all across the nation , items are being given away. The purpose is to keep items out of dumps and landfills. There are groups in Columbia, Lexington, Sumter and Charleston. The Charleston group has more than 3,000 members making trades.

The way it works is you log onto freecycle.org then if you have something you want to get rid of you send out an offer. If you want something you just ask for it. Many times, someone will answer.

Holli Emore received some free computer software she saw on the web site. Now, she's hooked onto the site; offering up plants she doesn't need to anyone who wants them.

It's a simple give-and-take that provides a sense of satisfaction while taking care of the environment.

Emore loves the sense of pride it gives her, "It makes me feel really good that we can reinforce that Americans are generous."

To get involved in the program just log onto www.freecycle.org.

Sounds a lot like the old bartering system back in the Middle Ages!
