Joss Stone Recreating Motown-type Soul Band

Joss Stone Recreating Motown-type Soul Band

British Neo-Soul sensation Joss Stone is joining forces again with legendary songwriter/producer Lamont Dozier. Proving everything old is new again, Stone and Dozier -- who produced the 'Spoiled' single off her hit 'Mind, Body and Soul' CD -- are looking for three hot African-American male singers to recreate the old Motown-style soul band.

Success would seem only a Stone's throw away for the proposed group, aged 22 to 30. Lamont Dozier -- the father of Stone's long-time boyfriend Beau Dozier -- was responsible for numerous Motown hits as a member of the Hall of Fame songwriting team Holland-Dozier-Holland and the new band will have the full backing and support of Relentless/Virgin Records in the UK behind it. And Stone has been a little like King Midas -- everything she's touched has turned to gold.

The singer, who was Grammy-nominated in three categories this year, is set to join such superstars as Madonna, U2, Bon Jovi, Sting and Stevie Wonder at Bob Geldof's Live 8 concert in London's Hyde Park July 2. She's featured on the soundtrack of the upcoming 'Fantastic Four' superhero flick with the likes of Chingy, Sum 41 and Velvet Revolver. The beauteous singer signed a contract to be the face of Gap, replacing 'Sex and the City' actress Sarah Jessica Parker, so her face and music will be all over commercials this summer. And her record label, EMI, gifted Stone with $190,000 in uncut diamonds for her birthday in April for helping its return to profit. Not bad for an 18-year-old with just two albums under her belt.

Maybe I'll like her music more with this new band.

I like her music, but her voice just doesn't seem "powerful" to me. I've seen her live several times on TV (VH1 mainly). A worthy effort. Good luck to her!

eh, I'm not understanding that? Isn't the girl like 18?

Anyway, I'll reserve judgement until I hear and see them but as of now the girl bores me....and i probably judge her harsher than other artists in the genre but then again she's getting the most praise and her stuff should be better.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Joss Stone. I saw her in concert in New Orleans before her 2nd CD came out and she blew me away. Just phenomenal live! I will listen to ANYTHING she puts out.

Joss has a good voice and a good sound. But I admit that the hype she received before I actually heard her myself made me skeptical on first sound. She's not as good as the hype in my opinion and she needs better selections of songs - better writers perhaps would work.
