I can't motivate myself

I have two exams on tuesday. Then two on thursday. Then another on friday. I'm in trouble, but whenever I set aside time to revise, I can't make myself do it. I just sit there and doodle, or waste time, or starthdaydreaming. I can't seem to force myself to work. And I can't fail these exams

Why can't I do any bloody good work? why do I always end up doing other stuff, like following the scoreboards from eastbourne, or daydreaming?

I never have a productive day. I kindov feel like I know the same amount I did at the very first lesson. The thing is, without trying to sound arrogant, I'm clever. I can understand the hard concepts, but I never doany work to back it up with working; I do not know how In theory I should be getting straight A's. I'll be lucky to get a C in anything other than music

I always struggle for motivation throughout the whole semester and end up cramming in the last week where I start regretting relaxing thru out the term. I use have to rely on short term memory for exams, which means killing my brain for the one day/week prior to the exam, not a good method lol.

You are facing a mental block. I faced the same problems as you did and couldn't be motivated (and arsed) because it was 'unimportant' exams. When the real thing came - the IB Exams - I said to myself "I had to do it". Remember, your exams play a huge part in your future life, so think to yourself if it's better to just "look at eastbourne scores" all day and have to pay the price for the rest of your life, OR, is it better to sit down and study and pay the price now, and not having to later in your life.

It's a question of paying the price for a few weeks as opposed to the REST OF YOUR LIFE.

I would suggest you take breaks between your studies, like say 5 mins breaks between 25-30 min study periods. It worked for me pretty well. Also, spend a few hours watching tv and lazing around, but then get to work for a few hours as well on the same day. When approaching your studies, remember that learning is NOT as hard as you think - u've been brought down mentally so you feel the pressure to be unmotivated. Do read REVISION GUIDE BOOKS if you have them, because it summarises pretty nicely what you have to generally know in your exams.

Hope this helps Anything you need, just ask.

im exactly the same.....take rite now for instance im supposed to be revising for my geography and 2 sports studies exams 2moro but instead im on here. i find it so hard to sit and make myself work but i find that revising in short stints helps me best then take a short break in between!it also helps me to have some music on while i work i cant work with it being quiet so put on a good cd and that mite help
the best way i can revise is to copy out notes like in spider diagrams but i use lots of different colours cos im a visual learner so reading in black and white doesnt work for me!
hope that helps a bit

like what abby said. try different styles

try different methods like concept maps or pictures, mnemonics, make a summary of a summary of a summary until you bring it down to its bare bones as actually rewriting it more succinctly and in ur own words helps!

my method is to make the most concise summary i can, and writing the key terms (without elaborating on them) under each topic then memorising them.

Good luck to the Aussie and Balkan girls!

Im same too cant be arsed like abby im on here even though ive got god knows how many exams! including one 2moro.

Eat something then settle down to revision. your brain needs food!

Put the syallabus in front of you and work through each topic on it, then after every topic test youself on the key concepts then have a break for 20 minutes or so to let that information sink in before attempting the next topic.

Like abby said diagrams may work better for you or perhaps your an audio person and reciting things out loud will help you!

But most importantly chill if your really stressed info is less likely to stick in!

Good luck to:
Serena Williams, Lindsay Davenport, Elena Dementieva, Anastacia Myskina, Chanda Rubin, Ana Ivanovic, and Jennifer Capriati (come back soon!)

James Blake, Marat Safin, Carlos Moya, Rafa Nadal, Andre Agassi, and David Nalbandian.

Respect to Beenie man reggae dancehall best musiq ever!

Big up to Arsenal and Fulham yeah baby!! kick ass! (got 2 best ladies teams too!)

i have no attention span.
i can't be assed to revise and i rarely do.
and the bad thing is, is i do well.
so when the exams get harder and i have to work more, maybe i'll fuck up
i think i need to fail badly to get my motivation back.

I will just say one thing:Nobody ever said in his/her death bed:"Oh why didnt I pass more time at the office?"or"Why didnt I study more?"...So people go out,do whatever you want...life is precious to spend it on reading...study when you feel like studying!

If I end up on the streets because i never managed to obtain my diploma, I do think I might regret it though

I said what I said for people that their whole future doesnt depend on their diploma...However there are some people who "will end on the streets if they dont obtain their diploma" and I believe they are mature enough to understand that they must study...So go and study...
