Charleston, SC to Commemorate Falling to the British 225 Years Ago

(Charleston-AP) - May 10, 2005 - More than 1,000 re-enactors representing British and Continentals will gather in Charleston this weekend to mark the 225th anniversary of the siege of Charleston.

It was 225 years ago Thursday that Charleston fell to the British, one of the biggest British victories of the Revolution. Re-enactors will camp at three colonial-era plantations along the Ashley River. It's the first time Middleton Place, Magnolia Gardens and Drayton Hall have collaborated on an event.

On Saturday and Sunday there will be re-enactments of skirmishes fought during the six-week siege as well as living history demonstrations.

It's the start of a two-year commemoration of the 225th anniversary of the Revolution in South Carolina where more battles and skirmishes were fought than in any other colony.
Charleston is a great city in so many ways. It is so rich in history, it's hard to describe. I highly recommend you visit if you get the chance!
