Animal extinction - is cloning the solution?

I know it sounds far fetched a la Jurassic Park, but according the BBC, cloning could combat the possible extinction of hundreds of precious species on our planet. What do yo think? I personally feel cloning endangered species could inadvertently hasten their decline as cloned animals have shorter life spans and are more prone to illnesses, for example.

Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.
