Have you ever read "El Quijote"

So, this year it's the 400 anivesary of the first edition of one of the most important books in history... of course celebrations here are everywhere. It's the world's most printed book just after the bible, and I'm curious to know who has ever read it, whether you liked or hated it.

Just in case you're interested

I have started it once, unfortunately, I did not have time to finish it.

I just love the author's style, though

Contrary to popular belief, it was not the world's first novel. The Tale of Genji by Lady Murasaki (sp?) of Japan was, written c. 1006 AD . Also, I heard some other book (can't remember which) was second most published . No matter, that was probably wrong...

...someone said El Quijote was the world's first novel? anyway the second most published book is the dictionary.

I started reading it in Spanish but I don't think it's really my thing - especially as I already know what happens in most of the adventures.

The majority of the educated class (not scholarly class) would tell you El Qijote is the first novel, because it is the first western novel, and westerners very rarely study eastern literature (no idea why, because Genji is really a great book.)
