Arrow "The Surviving Link": PLAYERS only

Hi Players!

Welcome to “The Surviving Link”, the game that requires the finesse of “Survivor” and the quickness of “The Weakest Link”.

Ultimately, “The Surviving Link” is a chat thread with a purpose: you want to be the last poster standing.

WTAWorld members will be reading all your posts on “The Surviving Link” game thread and based on your replies, they will decide your fate.

Starting today and running until the last day of the game (the 17th of May; the winner be announced on Friday, the 20th of May), all 9 of you will be interacting with each other. The discussion will stem from the following:

• Topics that I initiate
• Topics that you and your fellow players initiate
• Topics that the observing board members initiate [Note: Posters will be polled and I will randomly choose one of their suggestions for a topic]

There will be tasks as well where you will demonstrate to the observing posters your abilities as a decision maker and communicator (you will have to explain your execution of the task).

There will be 7 “rounds” (the playing of the game followed by voting, then elimination).

Each “round” will last 3 days. At the end of the 3rd day, voting will commence (posters will PM me the name of the person they want eliminated). Voting will be open for 24 hours my time (Pacific Daylight).

The first person ousted from the game will be announced on Tuesday, the 19th of April. In its own thread entitled “The Surviving Link: First Round Elimination”, I will announce the name of the game’s first casualty. This player must stop posting on the game thread immediately.

Note: Immunity will be available to one player each “round”. During some “rounds”, you can win immunity on your own; in other “rounds” you can receive immunity from either the WTAWorld posters (via a poll) or from me.

[Stay tuned for further instructions on beginning “The Surviving Link” on my next post]

Now to the game…

To begin the First Round, you have two tasks:

TASK1: “You Made Your Bed”

You were told in a pre-game PM from me to post a WTAWorld smiley.

• IN THE ORDER OF WHOSE SMILEY WAS POSTED FIRST, choose 1 bed from the photos of 9 beds shown below.

• Copy and paste that bed, then post it claiming it as your bed.

• That bed is no longer available.

• The player who was SECOND TO POST A SMILEY chooses their bed.

• That bed is now no longer available.

• CONTINUE ON (in order of smiley posting) until all 9 of you has a bed.

• After claiming your bed, please post an explanation on why you chose that particular bed.

TASK2: “It’s All About You”

Introduce yourself. You can either use your real first name or an alias first name. [Note: I would prefer that you referred to each as, for example, Joshua, as opposed to VSFan1.]

After doing so, answer these 3 questions:

Q1: What is the 1 thing that most people usually like about you? Share 2 “colourful” situations (be detailed, please) where someone told you that they liked this “1 thing” about you.

Q2: What 1 person, who lives with you OR lives in your neighbourhood, would you want the other “The Surviving Link” players to meet? Please specify why you chose this person and what this person means to you.

Q3: You have been granted a wish. For the rest of your life, you would NOT have to do one of the following ever again. Which one would you choose and why?

• Eat
• Sleep
• Bathe
• Defecate
• Brush your teeth

Please complete both tasks. Thank you.

You are encouraged to comment on your fellow players’ answers to Task1 and Task2.

Chat with you tomorrow!

Chris

I choose bed #8. I choose this one because out of all the beds only two of them really spoke to me. This one won out, because it has just very sleak lines, it's very crisp, and clean while also being very modern. I feel my style (in clothing and in personality) is definitley crisp and clean, I enjoy smooth lines and really professional texture. I felt this bed really blended everything that I enjoy and am in life, and in style. I also really like the the combination of the very white plain walls with a very distinct bedding. I think in life I have a very distinct personality, and this bed really reflects who I am.

Hello everyone! My name is Jamie, I'm 18 and I'm from Massachusetts. I am currently working 3 jobs, one as an assistant to a talent agency in boston, one as a bank teller (got to pay the bills some how!), and one in an amusement park controlling the cash flow within my stands. I have graduated high school, and was at University for a semester, before I decided to take a break from it all.

I've been posting on these boards forever it seems, well before WTAWORLD, I was on the original Sanex board, and a board before that where the color scheme was black with neon green tennis balls!

Now on to the questions:

For the first question, I think generally people really like my honesty. When I say honesty I don't mean that I am tactless and am a real bitch all the time (but we all have our moments ), I really try to not contrive my personality to fit the people around me, I try to stay true to who I am, and honesty is really the main part. Being a theater major and being surronded by a bunch of other performers it's really easy to get yourself into a mode where you just compliment all of your friends, because you don't want them to feel bad or hurt their feelings.

I have aspirations of being a producer, agent, or talent manager. I quickly learned that honesty is what you need, if you're spoon fed everything and pampered, but still suck and no one tells you, you're in for a rude awakening. I try to be that awakening, without being so rude.

I remember distincly one time my friend Dany complimented me on this. Growing up, I was never given the chance to really excel in performing. My parents never really supported my theater endeavours, so I never was able to take voice or acting lessons. In my senior year I was still trying to absorb everything, and try to learn as much as I could about my craft.

My best friend at the time, OliviA started taking lessons at this studio in the area. This I can say is the hub of theater talent in the area that I'm from. Everyone she did lessons with, performed with, were so talented. Really the cream of the crop in my area.

In months time I became really great friends with everyone, and soon it was time for college audition time. Out of the blue one of OliviA's mates (who is now one of my best mates) called me up to go over his house one day. I had no idea, you know what was going on, but I went anyway. Dany was practicing his audition song, and wanted MY help. Out of all the people he performed with, proven singers and such, he called me.

I thought this was odd at first, because I knew I didn't know as much, but I was still learning, and I did have a grasp of general knowledge on the subject. The thing with Dany was he's not really that great. His voice is very nasaly, and he has major pitch problems. NONE OF OUR FRIENDS WOULD TELL HIM THAT. He called me, because he knew that I would tell him exactly where his faults were, and I wouldn't be afraid to say it. I would end up helping him out for the rest of his performances until he went to university.

I know it seems sort of small, and silly but to me, who at the time I was going through a lot of confidence issues hanging out with such talented people, it really made my day, and made me beleive in what I was saying. I wasn't sure if I was going overboard over the whole honesty thing, but it proved to me that I could do this, and I'm doing it right.

---

Another time I was complimented was actually just a recent occurance. My friend Ashley is currently recording some demos at a studio near our house. We hadn't talked for quite some time, but she asked me if I wanted to go with her as she recorded her first song.

I thought this was odd because she was just a vocal major, and knew so many great people vocally, that she asked me to come. I thought she just wanted me their because we had known each other for a long time and she just wanted moral support.

On the ride home as we were discussing a song she wrote for her boyfriend, and she told me exactly why she chose me. She told me that she knew that I wouldn't be afraid to tell her what I thought, and that she wanted to make sure that I had someone like that with her. Vocally she thought she could fix everything that happened, bcause she has a really good ear, and Cory who is the producer can fix anything on the boards. She needed someone to be there for lyrical content, to make sure things weren't too cheesy and that it sounded good.

She trusted me, with these demos (studio time costs SO MUCH MONEY), and I felt really great about it.

I know that both of the examples I used reflect my aspirations in career and theater stuff, but at this point in my life it's really the most important part right now. My honestly reflects alot in my real life with people asking me for advice all the time on relationships, where I've never actually been in a relationship before...

I think I'll save that for later though becuase that opens up a whole new convorsation into my life!

As for the second question, I think I would choose my mom. I shamefully will admit that I am a lot like my mother, and I get alot of the negative aspects of my personality from her. My short temper, my sometimes abrasive personality (although usually I'm not abrasive, but I have my times where I just am a total bitch), and anytime I flip out, I really do get it from her. None of my friends in real life have met her, and I rarely talk about my family with them. I just think if anyone met her, well actually if someone was a fly on the wall and just saw our everyday interaction, a lot of things would make sense and the keys to my personality probably lie within her.

As for the last question, I think I would choose sleep. I feel like if I didn't have to sleep I could accomplish so much. Whether it's a project or just a night on the town, I think it would be the best. I really don't like to sleep too much anyway, I just feel I am so busy, and have so much to do that wasting it on sleeping is just really sad. With all the hours I would gain from not sleeping I feel I could have a much more fufilling life.

Those are my answers for now, I've really typed a lot! I can't wait to see everyone's responses!

I chose bed 3 because it has a somewhat modern and contemporary look with a bit of a spacious bedroom and a great view. Plus the colors are kind of plain and simple - which I like.

Hi everyone - my name is Joshua and I am 26 years old from South Carolina. I currently attend Clemson University where I am a junior (about to be senior) in Elementary Education. In one more year, I will be obtaining my first teaching job

Q1: What is the 1 thing that most people usually like about you? Share 2 “colourful” situations (be detailed, please) where someone told you that they liked this “1 thing” about you.

The thing people most like about me is that I am always willing to listen. When I have conversations with other people, we rarely talk about myself and it's usually about them. I don't mind it at all either, because I don't really care to talk about my problems with others. I internalize them and deal with them myself. But, I am more than happy to have an hour long conversation with someone about their life and for them to accept my advice is very flattering. I think in a previous lifetime I was a psychatrist

Q2: What 1 person, who lives with you OR lives in your neighbourhood, would you want the other “The Surviving Link” players to meet? Please specify why you chose this person and what this person means to you.

I would want you all to meet my mother. She is my best friend and the sweetest woman on earth. She has loved me more than anybody else ever has and I am so appreciative and thankful for her. Without her, I would be nowhere in my life and she is the reason I am who I am. She has such a positive impact on people and never says anything negative and is always willing to help people out regardless of what situation she is in. She is truly an inspiration!

Q3: You have been granted a wish. For the rest of your life, you would NOT have to do one of the following ever again. Which one would you choose and why?

• Eat
• Sleep
• Bathe
• Defecate
• Brush your teeth

I pick bathing because I shave in the shower and I despise shaving. So, if I never had to shave again (and keep a smooth face) it would be a miracle.

i choose bed no. 2.i like it because its how i would like my own room to be. NEAT. lol!nah, i like it because its feminine and classic and i love the color. some may thing that it lacks the "bright" colors but thats why the flowers are there. it adds a little something to the room. and i love it also because i see a window with 2 plants on the windowsill. and another plus is that lots of decorations can be added to this room without making it look cluttered. i just need to get a nice frilly piece of satin and i can make a canopy. it may not represent me fully in the sense that i'm loud and brash but thats why i chose it. its time for a change.

Well, i'm Veronica Calista Rani and i'm 21. call me Vero or Ronnie or just plain old Veronica. anyway, i'm a final year communications student majoring in Journalism and Mass Communications and i'm a pretty good student. my style of writing is not very suitable for hard news but its perfect for columns and features. i'm willing to try anything at least once, except when it comes to food. the only meat i'm willing to eat is chicken, fish, lamb and beef. everything else is a no-no. some may view it as hypocrisy when i say i'm an animal lover but yet i'm a non-vegetarian but i believe that u have to be in a person's shoes to understand them. i used to be a cheerleader in highschool and it was tough because of the stereotypes. one of my proudest moments in life is that i showed all the haters that i was just as smart when my a-level results came out.(i beat out some of those who were considered smartasses). i plan on studying law once i get my degree. i have 6 dogs and i love them to bits. and i have 2 sisters, one's 3 years older and the other is 19 years younger. i'm well travelled and i've lived in different places for long periods of time. i'm malaysian but currently i'm in australia.

After doing so, answer these 3 questions:

Q1: What is the 1 thing that most people usually like about you? Share 2 “colourful” situations (be detailed, please) where someone told you that they liked this “1 thing” about you.
boring, but one thing people like about me is that i'm able to make them feel at ease really quickly.

sit 1: i was at a party once and i saw this girl standing all by herself. it was obvious that she was shy and that she wasn't very popular. anyway, i was with my friends and i heard some people calling her a nerd and such. anyway, i felt awful because she didn't deserve that kind of treatment.i walked up to her and started talking to her. at first she thought i was just toying with her, making fun of her but eventually i got her out of her shell and just introduced her to a few people i felt she would be comfortable with. a few days later a friend of hers (one she made at the party) came up to me and said that she sang praises about me and that if not for me she would continue being miserable and friendless. i was touched. she might not have told this to me directly but all the same, i felt great.

sit 2: i was on the debate team in my first year of college and i convinced a friend of mine to join. she's the really shy type but she's really intelligent and i knew that with her on the team we had a good shot of winning. anyway, despite protesting she joined. the day of the debate she got really nervous and started crying. i gave her a hug and told her "jennifer, this is all in your head. there's nothing to be afraid of. this is one topic you're passionate about. and you're in command here. its an opportunity for you to show these people out there that still waters run deep". she managed to shake off her jitters and she came in so close to winning best speaker. after the debate (which we won) she came up to me and said that i really helped her compartmentalize her feelings and that i inspired her. once again, i was touched to the core.

Q2: What 1 person, who lives with you OR lives in your neighbourhood, would you want the other “The Surviving Link” players to meet? Please specify why you chose this person and what this person means to you.
i would want everyone to meet best friend Isabella. she's an incredible woman. she's a student and she's been supporting her education all by herself since the start of uni. and she helps out in her family as well. and to add to that, she also volunteers at the old folks home and childrens home. i love her to bits because she's been there for me in times of need over and over again. plus, she's gorgeous!

Q3: You have been granted a wish. For the rest of your life, you would NOT have to do one of the following ever again. Which one would you choose and why?

• Eat
• Sleep
• Bathe
• Defecate
• Brush your teeth

brushing my teeth. its one thing i hate doing by still do 3 times a day. i hate the taste of toothpaste and everytime i brush my teeth i HAVE to brush my tongue. and when i brush my tongue, the gag raflex is just not fun.

I chose #1 because it looks like the best of the beds, in terms of comfort. It looks very Indianish which is appealing to me. I love pillows and this has plenty.
