VH1 Tells It to Taylor's Heart - You Can Be Remade!

- Witness the Transformation of 80s Pop Star During 'Remaking: Taylor Dayne' Premiering on Thursday, April 21 at 10PM*

NEW YORK, April 13 -- In the late 80s Taylor Dayne was a pop icon, selling nearly 10 million records driven by 10 top ten singles including "Tell It to My Heart" and "I'll Always Love You" which were heard on radio stations and seen on music channels around the world. Now it is 2005 and Taylor is in need of a change so she turned to VH1 for help.

For three months, Dayne worked with some of Hollywood's toughest trainers, hottest stylists and choreographers, as well as mega-music producer Rodney Jenkins to record a new single. Throughout the hour-long special, "Remaking: Taylor Dayne," premiering Thursday, April 21 at 10PM* viewers will witness Taylor's transformation from an 80s pop star to a modern day mega-star in time to perform her new single "Right Now" live on national TV during ABC's "The View."

"Remaking" is a series of specials that seeks to improve the careers and lives of artists through various forms of transformation. In each special, an artist goes through 90 days of hands-on interaction with a specially selected team of experts who take them through the sometimes comic, emotional, but always intense transformation, which may involve anything from therapy to plastic surgery, exercise, style renovation and musical reinvention. Upcoming episodes include Vanilla Ice and Jodi Watley.

The Remaking of Taylor Dayne begins in Orlando, Florida, at Disneyworld, where Taylor is performing three shows a night for a week. It's clear from her lackluster performance that this is not where she wants to be performing. And the audience, which is made up of families, older fans and passersby, are similarly unenthusiastic.

Time has brought with it several significant changes for the late 80s dance-pop diva. Now just past 40, Taylor recently became a single mother of twins, does not have a record deal and is struggling to create a new sound that is more current than her 80s hits. She has taken good care of herself for a woman in her early 40s, but clearly needs a style refresher for the 2000s.

Taylor expresses the difficulties in trying to get a top ten hit in a time when the airwaves are dominated by a new, select generation of young pop stars. Taylor has the support of her family and her friends, and one in particular is Leah Remini (actress, star of CBS' The King of Queens), who encourages Taylor to undertake the remaking challenge.

Taylor Dayne decides to take advantage of the opportunity to remake herself. Her ultimate goals are to record a new single that could get her back on the charts and to use her comeback performance on ABC's hit talk show, The View, to help re-launch her career.

Over the next few months, Taylor Dayne will face her fears, struggle to balance family and work and will be tested on every level.

Taylor claims to be game for the entire process but is resistant to a visit with a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon. Two of Hollywood's hottest trainers challenge Taylor by putting her through the ringer in a specially designed boot camp. A-list stylists work to update Taylor's performance outfits and push to give her look a modern twist despite Taylor's reluctance. For Taylor, the process would be a failure without a great song. Taylor has to put faith in the mega-hit producer, Rodney Jerkins, who has created hits for powerhouses Destiny's Child and J-Lo, to create a sound that can compete in the current market and utilized Taylor's vocal strengths.

And although Taylor says she's a singer first and a dancer second, she has to learn a new routine from A-List choreographer, Brian Friedman, that will give her an edge.

A fresh look and sound for Taylor is on the horizon, but can she withstand the pressure of putting it all together and the critiques of experts and friends?

No matter how much she resists change, and whether she succeeds or fails, the experiences Taylor encounters along the way will help build the person she will become. See what happens when a dedicated and driven team of professionals joins forces, in an attempt to re-launch, rejuvenate, re-master and remake Taylor Dayne.

Hehe I seen a video of her on TV the other day. She sounded a bit like Anastasia, only from the 80's.

I loved Taylor! Those lips! I'm waiting for Cyndi Lauper's big "comeback", too. Her last album of remade classics was really good!

Oh I hope we get this in the UK. I really liked Taylor Dayne ( and Samantha Fox ) in the '80s.

This is great news! Taylor's always had a fantastic voice and it would be nice to hear something new by her.

The article talks about her being reluctant to visit a plastic surgeon...but why would she need to? They mention that she's taken good care of herself and apparently they're whipping her back into shape, so what's the surgery all about?

Anyway, good luck to her...not many women in their 40s have much success on the charts...hopefully, she'll be one who does.

Good luck Taylor! Love her music!

"Religion has actually convinced people that there is an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. Any if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But he loves you."

I hope her song doesn't sound too young because it's not necesary. Taylor CAN sing and so I hope it doesn't get lost in all that overproduction of today that's there to cover up weak vocals.

DON'T MAKE ME OVER: Former 1980s pop diva Taylor Dayne says she made it clear to the producers of VH-1's 'Remaking' reality show that she was open to being remade -- to a point.

The show, debuting tonight (Thurs. 4/21) attempts to reignite Dayne's career by pairing her with multi-Grammy-winning superproducer Rodney Jerkins. She notes that when Motley Crue lead singer Vince Neil did the show prevously, 'he did three months of plastic surgery. So I go - Guys - if it's about music, I'm in. If you want me to work with hair and clothes stylists -- not a problem. Makeup? Let's go, bring it on. Choreographers? Cool. Plastic surgery -- not cool!' However, the songstress admits, 'You can tell that they did get some botox in me.'

Dayne is very happy with the single called 'Right Now' that her long-time fan Jerkins created just for her. 'The song is very classic sounding Taylor in its own way? ballsy, edgy as well as fun.' Still she says she wasn't thrilled about being followed around by cameras all day. 'But the positive risks involved -- working with Rodney and having the potential to get my face back out there -- outweighed the negative of being so vulnerable. And the other stuff is funny. Listen, living in the Dayne house is nothing short of living in a three-ring circus...a single mom with three-year-old twins is out of control.'
