Why do a lot of Americans find Europe decadent?

A question for the Americans/Asians/Australians?

Why do a lot of Americans think (western-) Europe has no morals?

- Is it because most people don't go to church?
- because of socialist politics?
- because of the cigarettes?
- because of gay marriages/euthanasia laws?
- because of Tony Blair?
- because of more liberal attitude toward sexuality?

I think it's definitely the sexuality thing. In Singapore, oral sex is illegal, in America they have a policy of teaching kids to abstain for as long as possible from sex etc.

In Europe we're basically fed sex, it's always on TV, magazines are freely avaliable for all ages.

Wich actually is weird, because the big majority of porn movies/websites is made in the USA.

And teen pregnancies are more frequent in the USA then in Europe as well!

Yeah that's the funny thing, the more you forbid something, the more it will become a problem.

I don't find Europeans to be decadent, I think that they are far more sensible than Americans.

Actually the opposite can also be said. Many European blame Americans for being too moral. I'm European & I love the U.S. as it is.

What's with the generalizations?

I've been to Europe three times in the last three years. I enjoyed my time there. The transportation system is a helluva lot more organized than most US cities I've been to. I enjoy the culture. I've had a few things happen that I attribute to ignorance and the same things have happened in the states so I don't hold it against Europeans.

I think Europe is more progressive when it comes to social issues (domestic partnerships, maternity leave, healthcare, etc).

Abstinence-only education is the minority sex education that's only become "popular" because the federal government gives money to school districts who decide to implement it into their curriculum.

American Teens' lack of access to condoms (because our lil angels aren't supposed to be having sex or sexual thoughts), the stigma attached in American society to carrying condoms (girls who have them are considered whores) and the acceptance of teen pregnancy (we have day care in high schools for heaven's sake) is the real reason why Americans have a higher rate of teen pregnancy than Europe, although in the last decade it has dropped here while some countries in Europe have caught up.

That's the point, you can't compare the U.S. with one small European country. The size of the U.S. in population terms can be compared to the EU which consists of poor members such as Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia etc.. Don't forget those countries when comparing.
