One Hit Wonders

Be interesting (I think! ) to reminisce over the one-hit wonders of years gone by (in either UK or US). What song captured the imagination for the nations for weeks on end, was playing in every shop, city centre and public place until you were so sick of it you wanted to vomit?

And then......nothing.

The artist must follow this path: 1) Get to number one with unbelieveably popular song. 2) Rake in a ton of money, bathe in your fame. 3) Get unbelievable publicity for follow-up single. 4) Watch that single flop amazingly 5) Sign up for pantomime and live your life in absolute obscurity.

The two i can think of at the moment in the UK are the legendary Chesney Hawkes with "The One and Only", which was everywhere for ages, and then his career died (it was indeed his "one and only" hit ) and also a Scottish woman (I think) called Aneka with one of my personal favourite one-hit wonders, "Japanese Boy". She disappeared almost immediately as that song left the charts.

Others?

The fruit series is suspended whilst Grachka (obatafan) mourns Saori's retirement.

Yes, Aneka topped the UK charts with Japanese boy. Had one or two follow ups like little lady which song probably made the top 20 UK charts.
Would go for Babylon Zoo with spaceman first one which comes to my mind. There are probably more one hit wonders. Can't think of any others. Obatafan maybe former Scottish band Slik where James Midge Ure became famous. Not sure of "Forever and ever!" topped the UK Charts.

Of course Lilly the pink from Scaffolds. One of the best sellers of 1968, stayed about 6 weeks on top of the UK charts

It's so easy to predict one-hit wonders nowadays ... anyone with successful career lasting over 5 years can acount himself lucky. What can you expect when most of the songs are record for sole purpose ... money! Look at Elvis - after all this time he can still top the charts with his memorable songs. Somehow i don't see Britney Spears, Frau Lopez etc. being hot-sellers in about 25 years from now!

Äre 2007 Downhill and GS GOLD: Aksel LUND SVINDAL (NOR) WC overall champion for 2006/07 and 2008/09; winner of 2 crystal globes in GS and SC

Vancouver 2010: Super-G GOLD, downhill SILVER, GS bronze
Current crushes: Johannes STRATE Tom BATEMAN Éric BRUNEAU Greyston HOLT David MIESMER Raphaël LENGLET Tom LEEB

I can only think of White Town's Your Woman from about '97 off the top of my head. A home made classic.
